Girl Meets Secrets

I went home myself today. Without Maya.

I sat in my room completely alone, tears rolled out of my eyes as I felt a sense of loneliness surge through me.

I wouldn't care if I had to be stuck with Lucas, or Darby, or anyone else form school for that matter.

I just needed someone right here, and right now.

I decided to go outside, for some fresh air, and maybe I could get my mind off things.

Usually, Maya, Lucas, Farkle and I would go down to 'Topanga's' to just hang out or eat, but my mom wasn't here anymore-- at least not here in Greenwich Village.

If she was really in Chicago, one day I would find her and Auggie, with Maya.

I prepared to cross the road that was roaring with vehicles. I waited till the lights flickered green, and the roaring died down a bit.

But that was probably not the only thing on the verge of dying.

"Riley, Riley" I was being shook.

I felt someone's hands on me, shaking me frantically, but the voice was a blur.

"Riley wake up!" it came again

I tried to open my eyes, but they were tightly shut.

All I could hear, other than this mysterious voice, was constant beeping.

"RILEY MATTHEWS YOU OPEN YOUR EYES RIGHT NOW"

"I-I..." I started, furiously trying to force out my words, but nothing would be come out as normally projected.

"Riley?" The shaking stopped, "I'm not supposed to be here, but it's me, your little brother!"

"Auggie...!?" I forced my eyes open, and I was blinded by the blinking lights, I looked to my right, and I held onto Auggie's hand. I followed the trail up his arm and that lead to his chubby cheeks.

His brown curls stayed the same.

"Auggie" I pulled him up against me, and held him close. I stroked his hair, holding him tighter.

"I'm not supposed to be here" he started, but I cut him off before he could finish.

"You and mommy never died, did you?" I pulled him away from him, holding him still, with my hands grasping his shoulders.

"I- I can't say-"

"August, you have to"

"F-fine... We n-never died" he took a deep breath in, looking around to make sure no one was listening, "Mommy told me she was part of a committee, but she didn't tell me what, and Mr Friar, Lucas' dad is part of it too"

"That explains it..." Maybe Maya knows something about it, "Why are you here?"

"Mommy had to give something to Lucas' dad" he leaned in closer, lowering the volume of his voice, "He tried to kill you with his car"

And with that, I watched as my little brother- whom I haven't seen in months- walk away, with the knowledge that Lucas' father tried to murder me, planted in my brain.

I could've died tonight.

I laid back in my hospital bed, holding my hands up against my beating heart, and I smiled, I'm okay.
