"Go baby!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as Miyah walked onto the floor in her cute leotard. She waved at us and we waved back. Today was her first big gymnastics competition since she got back into it and I was so nervous for her, but I knew my baby was amazing.I saw her take a deep breath as the music started and she began her tumbling routine. Naturally, she picked Mike's music for her routine. She really missed him and wanted to honor him by doing what she loved like he wanted for them.
She ran and flipped and split and all of it was amazing. Her hair glitzed as the light hit her and I knew she was enjoying herself. The minute she got back into it, her sad days were non-existent. She woke up with such a positive mind. Even when she lost other competitions, she was still walking with her chest out and I loved that about her.
She finished her routine and stood with her arms up as everyone cheered for her, especially me. "Yeah! That's my baby! Whooo! Go baby! Go Miyah!" I heard Toni laugh and I looked at her. "What?"
"Nothing, you're a proud mommy and I love that for you."
"Me too." The competition continued and the other competitors did their routines. Although I didn't want to admit it, they were good, but not as good as my baby. Everyone showed up for her. Mother was her and all of her aunties and uncles came as well. They were all cheering for her.
The routines ended and it was time to see where everyone placed. I sat on the edge of my seat. "For bronze; Georgette Herron." There were claps as she went up to collect her medal. "For silver; Jacklyn Robinson." More claps. Miyah stood with two other girls as the waited for the final results. "And finally, for gold;...." Everyone was on waiting with anticipation. "Amiyah Braxton Jackson."
"Whoo!" I stood up and cheered. Miyah ran and got her medal. She stood on the podium as everyone clapped. Some of the other girls had attitudes, but I didn't care. My baby won and I was so proud of her.
There were a few more words said before the competition ended. We quickly got up and went out of the stadium to the outside of the locker rooms. It took a few minutes but eventually Miyah came out with a smile. When she saw us, she ran to us. "Mom! Mama!" I hugged her. Toni hugged her and picked her up. "I won."
"I'm so proud of you, babygirl." said Toni. Miyah had the biggest smile. Toni put her down and we hugged her.
"I'm so excited."
"See, dummy, I said you were good at something. I could never do all that flippy spinny stuff." We laughed. Miyah and Lia hugged. Amina moved around in my arms while squealing.
"I think your sister wants to congratulate you too." Miyah handed her stuff to Lia and I gave her Amina. She mushed her face onto her cheek causing Miyah to laugh.
"Thank you."
"Let's go celebrate." said Momma E. We all left out and went to our respective cars. The whole ride, Miyah and Lia went on and on about what Miyah could accomplish and some gymnastics team drama going.
"Olympic gold medalist. I don't know, maybe." said Miyah.
"Oh, yeah definitely. You'll be an Olympic gymnast and I'll be a businesswoman and we'll be rich together." I looked at Toni and we shook our heads.
"What about Amina?"
"She can sing like mom or something." I saw Lia through the rearview mirror shake her hand in the air. I immediately turned around.
"Excuse me. I'm a little offended by the nonchalance about my career." They chuckled.
"Sorry, mom."
