Dakota

Today was her sixteenth birthday and I didn't know what she liked so I took her shopping so she could get something she wanted. Dani thought it was a good idea that we spent time alone. I watched as she got in the car and I drove to the mall.

Dakota: how are you doing in school?

KC: good, mom says that if I keep making good grades that I could go with Uncle Zak and Uncle Devin.

Dakota: that's good sweetheart.

KC: dad, why did you and mom break up?

Dakota: things happened and we just stopped getting along.

KC: I wish you two would work things out.

Dakota: I wish it were that simple but unfortunately we aren't trying to work things out.

KC: I hate that we get to see each other on the weekends.

Dakota: it's better than not seeing you at all.

We finally got to the mall and headed to the stores that she wanted to go get a few things and got a bite to eat before I took her back home. I knew she didn't want me to leave but I didn't want to anger Dani by hanging around her house.

KC: see you later dad.

Dakota: see you later KC...

KC: I love you...

Dakota: I love you too baby girl...

I was about to drive away when I seen Dani walk towards my car and I waited to see what she wanted.

Dani: do you want to come inside and watch her open her gifts?

Dakota: I don't want to upset anyone here...

Dani: you can't keep visiting her the way you do, she misses you when you're not with her.

Dakota: and what you have me do Dani, it's not like I live here or still married to you.

Dani: I know that we have our differences in the past but I'm willing to move past that for her sake.

Dakota: I can't do that Dani, she wants us to be together and I need to let you go...

Dani: don't take it out on her...

Dakota: I will continue seeing her like I have been doing for the past fifteen years...

Dani: if that's what you want but she will eventually want to spend more time with you instead of every Saturday and Sunday.

Dakota: I gotta go, I will be here next Friday night to pick her up...

I got in my car and drove away while I seen her still standing in the driveway, I couldn't be the person Dani expected me to be so I decided to finally let her go so she could move on with her life and I would do the same.
