The drive was long, not able to relax I wondered again what I'd gotten myself into. Michel was silent for the remainder of the drive and I didn't feel like asking him anymore questions. The quite was palpable, the stench of my fear I was sure was still in the air, but he remained silent.
Vampire soulmate. I had a freaking vampire soulmate. Would have one for all of my lives ahead of me. That was another thing I was having trouble getting a grip on, that he said reincarnation is real. The steady hum of the engine, and cars swirling past finally start to help easy my nerves. Slowly I slide back into the middle of the seat, stretching my legs out in front of myself.
"Are we almost there?" I ask
Making a turn off the highway, he merges onto a back road, stopping at a stop light he turns to me.
"We still have a good thirty minutes" He says
"Won't your friend know about this house?" I ask
"He doesn't know about this one." He merly responds.
The light turns green, the car taking off fast down the road, giving me wip lash. I take another swig of my soda.
"There aren't any other vampires who are going to come after me because of you are there? Or any other surprises?" I asked
"My sisters at the house. Along with her souldmate." He said "And no, no one else should come after you."
Little houses started to drift by as we drove further and further into the country side, until the number of houses greatly decreased. Leaning my head against the window I waited for our awkward drive to end. Thinking of Aaron I wondered what he'd do when he found me missing the next day. What would my parents do!? I didn't even figure them into the equation when I was wondering if I would go with this strange man or not. I was always distant with my parents, breaking free from there strick rules the moment I became 18, I was overjoyed to be away from them, but now I wondered if I'd miss them.
"Do you think I'll come up as a missing person?" I asked
"You will. Give me your phone now if you have it." He said
Reaching in my pocket, I wordlessly fish for my phone, handing it over to Michel. He crushes it in his hand, the screen crumbling away into fragments and dust. I watch nimbly as his powerful arm relaxes, dumping what used to be my phone into the other cup holder.
"There that problems solved." He said
I let out a low long breath, trying to process what just happened. I didn't notice but I had moved away from him again. My body quivers slightly. 'What did you expect Cass you got in a car with a vampire.' I mentally chastise myself.
"Your scared again" He said
"You just crushed my phone into tiny peices. So I'm guessing super strength is part of the vampire thing." I say
"Along with.... other things" He says vaguely.
"Like?" I ask
"Your going to find out eventually so I'm going to tell you. Vampires have multiple personalities. Two to be exact. We call them the deties." He says
"Deties?" I ask in wonder
"Most of the time there quite but sometimes they come out. There from our vampire nature. The gift from Satan himself." He says sardonically.
A chill runs down my back and back up to my shoulder blades at the mention of Satan. He looks at me, concern on his face then.
"It was too soon to mention. I shouldn't have said anything." He says
"No no you have a demon inside of you that you talk to. It's all good." I said
"Your freaking out." He says
"I am not" I answer back. "All of this kinda sounds like werewolves but with vampires. It's cool." I say hands going under my armpits and I lean my head into the window, watching the trees go by.
"Fuck I guess it does sound like werewolves" He says
"Those aren't real are they?" I ask suspiciously.
"Only demons" He answers back nonchalantly.
I stare at him, eyes wide, and mouth dry, but he continues to drive the car as if he didn't just tell me demons were real.
"And can some of these demons transform into wolves and people?" I ask again suspicious he wasn't telling me everything.
He let's out a sigh and pinches the bridge of his nose, one hand still on the steering wheel.
"I guess yeah, you could call some of them werewolves but we just call them shapeshifters. There not limited to wolf or human form." He says
I let out a triumphant humph. So there were werewolves out there too.
We were driving down a long dark road, no street lights in site, as he pulls up onto a gravel road, stopping only to press the garage clicker to open the gate surrounding the property. The house we pulled up to was magnificent. That was the only way to describe the old two story white building. It was an older house, with large pillars, and equally large windows it was a manor more then a house really.
"This is yours?" I asked in amazement
"One of mine" He answered back.
He got out of the car, slamming rhe door hard I quickly followed. There was a woman standing in the doorway, she had sunset blonde hair, and a pretty red dress on. She gave Michel a big hug as he walked up to the front entrance, as I awkwardly trailed behind.
"Hello" She greeted me with a warm smile.
"Hi" I answered back with an awkward wave.
"So you'll be joining our family now and family members hug" She said coming over to me and giving me a warm hug. I awkwardly recieved it, giving her back a couple pats. She pulled away and surveyed me, looking me up and down.
"I like the face on this life." She said elbowing her brother. "Much better then the last." She added a little tensly.
"Well raging bitches can make you hate just about everything about a person." I awkwardly said.
She let out a small chuckle, her hand going to her mouth to cover her teeth. I was glad my joke hit home, but I wondered silently why she had to cover her teeth. The memory of michels ilongated fangs still brought a tinge of fear to my bones.
"You have no idea" She said "you drive us all a little crazy"
"I'm a different person though. Or I'd like to think I am." I said
"Well see in time." She said with a smile.
"Can I ask what exactly I did?" I ask shyly.
"In time you'll find out. For now let's head out of this humidity." She said with a wave.
Onside was even more spectacular then the outside. The front entrance opened up to a spiraling staircase in the middle of the foyer, the old wood gleaming in the shandeler light. I let out a little gasp, taking in all the old painting and furnishings. Plush cushioned seating could be seen in the sitting room connected though an open door, a piano to the right.
"Your home is lovely" I said
"Thank you. We try to keep it updated but we still like to hold onto the past." She said
"Whats you name?" I asked her suddenly
"How rude of me when I know yours I'm elise." She said giving me her hand to shake. "I hope we can be friends"
"Me too" I said with a smile.
