The chandeliers sparkled under the lights, the ball room opened up to me. Clad in the most decedent attire the guest fluttered about, all white shining teeth as they smiled at one another. All new and strange faces, all handsome in there own right. The manner was magnificent, story high ceilings, clad all in the finest crown moldings. Painting littered the walls of old scenes and people, red drappings hung from the rows of windows. The vampire council could be seen sitting on the theature stage across the room, clad in suits.
"Hello michel" a finely dressed lady greeted us by the front entrance to the ball room, Elise and Roy trailing behind us.
"How very nice to see you again alice" Michel said smile broad on his face "this is cassie. My mate."
She held out her gloved hand and I shook it, the fabric silky smooth, she was dresses in an old fashion.
"I see you eyeing my dress" Alice said "it's an old thing I pulled out from centuries ago"
"It looks lovely" I said and meant it.
Feeling like I had just walked into an old movie, many of the guest had on old garb. Though some wore new fashions, it was a sight to behold.
"So cassie tell me how you met michel" Alice said
"Ow the usual. Talking in my mind for month before his best friend tried to kill me and we had to escape to a secret house in the woods." I said
"Adam? Really? How exciting" She said with a smile.
I could disagree.
"This is my mate." She said finally introducing the old gentleman behind her. "Dear Rick and I met through a charity event"
"She sniffed me out" He said with a chuckle.
More guest came from behind and our whole group went to move to the side, out of the way. We happily chatted on with Alice and Rick, michel going into detail of his life the past hundred years.
"Well you'll certainly have more demons to hunt tonight. It's going to be quit a show" Alice said
"I expect it will be." Michel said
"But surely jacob is aware were all expecting him" Alice said
"Hell come anyways. It's too good of an opportunity." Michel contured.
"True. If he means to reset us all there's no better place then out here in the country side where we're all gathered." Alice said.
The music started then, picking up its tempo I pulled on michels sleeve, silently motioning that I was ready to dance.
"If you'll excuse us. I think my date is ready to dance." Michel said.
Alice shook my hand one more time, before we made our way out onto the dance floor. I was never a good dancer, having poor corndination and stiff limbs, I made for a terrible partner. Michel didn't seem to care as he effortlessly guided me around and around, taking charge of my movements I soon found myself having fun. Our movement glided with the rythme of the music, around and around I spun coming back into michels arms. The beat was my spirit my soul in that moment, guiding me as michel did. I felt elated.
"Your not a terrible dancer. You just need the right partner" Michel whispered into my mind.
"I needed you" I whispered back and the smile on his face grew.
"Indeed you did" He whispered his face coming down to the crook of my neck, he took in a big inhale. I looked over then and noticed a vampire feasting on his partner, stopped in the middle of the dance floor, the human looked elated.
"Ignore them" Michel said and continued to sway with me, but I couldn't tear my eyes from the scene, it somehow mesmerized me.
The vampire looked up and I realized it was archer, his bloody grin gleaming brightly. He walked over to us, and tapped michel on the shoulder.
"May i?" He asked
Michel let go over me then, taking my hand he kissed it gently, before turning to archer and scowling.
"I'll be watching" Michel growled out
"I'd expect nothing else" archer said.
I didn't know how michel did it, walking away. Not when the bond between us was so fresh and new. I could still feel the tendril of light and overwhelming need to be with him.
"You'll get used to it eventually my love" Michel said in my mind.
"Don't pretend you not going to shatter a glass the second he touches me" I tease back.
"Just one?" He asked in a breathy tone.
A new song soon began and archers hand went to my back, his other in my hand.
"My lady" He said as he lead me into the rythme of the orchestra.
Archer was not as skilled as michel, trying to figure out my skill level we stumbled once before he took the reins in hand, now leading me as much as michel.
"Not a dancer in this life" He said
"No" I appoligized
"That's fine I can teach you" He said. "Place your feet ontop of mine and I'll carry you."
"I thought the point was to not step on your toes" I teased and he let out a gentle laugh.
"Not tonight baby doll" He said into my ear.
"Tell him to back off" Michel said into my mind but I ignored him. I was having fun with archer, his dashing smile radiating through the room.
Archer carried me through the steps, our feet gliding as one, we swayed and twirled together, his strong arms holding me up. His hand moved a little lower then my waist as he leaned in, smelling my scent.
"Intoxicating" He whispered
I felt a blush creep up my neck all the way to my cheeks. Archer was the one who was intoxicating me I was sure, he spun me around again, before gliding my body back to him, my feet going back to stepping on his toes.
"Tell me about yourself cassie" He said
'"Don't you already know everything?" I asked remembering he'd searched my mind.
"I left some of it for a surprise" He whispered in my ear.
"My favorite color is blue" I stuttered out remebering the color of michels blue eyes.
He let out a chuckle, my answer pleasing him somehow.
"Ok cassie who's favorite color is blue." He said "How very brave of you to be here tonight."
"I'm not the only human here" I said
"No but your certainly one of the only mates" He said
He leaned down to to take in my scent again, before the song ended and he released me.
"I'll see you around cassie" He called walking back to his date.
A horn sounded out and Michel was next to me in a second. The sound ringing out, it blasted my ear drum, a hand coming up to stiffle out the noise.
"There early" michel said "go hide"
Yelling insued as all the humans scrambled out of the room, there vampire counterparts ushering them quickly out of the ball room and up the stairs. I tripped over my footing trying to follow the crowds out, while someone stepped on my dress.
"Wheres the kitchen?!" I demanded "the book says I have to hide in the kitchen!"
Michel scooped me up and I quickly held on and shut my eyes tight as we flew through the house, wind ripping at my curls.
He placed me down next to the cubbereds, getting down on my knees I opened the little door and scooted inside.
"I'll be back as soon as I can" Michel yelled out over the horns still blaring and screams.
"Be quick" I said back to him.
Sounds of snarling and roaring peirced the thin wooden cabinet, people screaming and the shuffling of feet.
"Go now quickly!" I heard someone yell out followed by grunting.
A door slammed and a whole hord of foot steps could be heard, leaving the house, outside to the great perils of the demon hoard.
