If I thought the highway was an evil place now I was convinced camels were the true evil. Traveling through the sahara dessert on camel back we were traveling from erfoud to merzouga. Wanting to get a taste of the dessert i egerly awaited our departure that morning. The great Golden sand dune rolled on, as my camel trecked through in the still night. Nothing but rolling waves of sand a cactus here and there, the sight was a sea of gold.
Walking through the dessert was even worse then riding a camel, my aching limbs throbbing under the jolting and swaying beast as he traveled his way across the sand dunes. Still the beautiful nights sky opened up for me one more time, and I stared up at it in wonder, encapsulating and engulfing me once more.
"Already had your fill of camels?" Michel asked into my mind with a laugh
"Its.... ineresting." I admitted "but I'm already ready to head back to erfoud" I admitted.
Back to that cozy hotel, the swimming pool seeming to call out to me in that moment. Michel spoke to our guide then, explaining to the man that we were ready to head back. The guide looked relieved, he was already out in the dessert at night, not on his usual tour time, making an exception for the more then generous offer I'm sure Michel made.
"Were going back. Roy's relieved as well." Michel said telipathically
Roy was like me, enjoying the experiance but wishing for a shower, the sand sticking everywhere my skin was exposed, carried on by a heavy wind. We turned our camels around, the hevy beasts feeling clumsy in the motion, I constantly worried the sadle would slip and fall off the swaying beast.
"OH that dessert flame, the pixie in the sand, with dusty feet, and painted skin, burning to the moon. With the fire dancing in her wings, she dares the stars to fade and the jealous sun will rise again to cool the heats she made." Michel said into my mind.
"Your such a poet" I giggle out loud.
"Cant give me the credit on that one its by atticus. But im just trying to add to the ambience." He replies back and gives me a heart warming smile back at me, his camel trecking infront of me.
Elise looks back at us, a smile on her face as she no doubtfully starts a conversation with michel. The treck back was long and arduous but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Having seen the desert night skies another thing on my bucket list was competed.
"Happy i could help" Michel says in my mind.
"How long are we staying at this place?" I asked into the void
"Roy wants to leave, the next destination is up to him" Michel says
"That's fair" I responded
Back at the hotel I threw off my boots, filled to the brim with sand, I messaged at my aching calves before moving on to the next articles of clothing, peeling away at my pants and shirt before I head into the shower.
"You know" Michel began into my mind
"That I'm in the shower and this is private time" I began and he let out a laugh.
"I was going to say that we still have time to go to the pool if you want." He suggested
"Ok" I said "I'll be down in a bit"
I quickly get out of the shower and make my way to the chest of drawers, pulling out my swimsuit michel had purchased for me a few days earlier. Pulling on my bottoms, then top I was was ready to go.
The book my voice hissed into my mind
What book? I paused what I was doing to think about a book I should know about but came up short, why was the universe whispering about a book at me. I was getting to used to things talking in my mind, not even feeling spooked from the sudden interruption.
I searched through my mind for that thread of power, the way Michel instructed me to do so. Searching and searching until I found the light and grasped it, holding the squirming tendril down until it was a part of me.
"What book" I shot at it
The book of wonders. The book of knowledge. Your book. It hissed back
"Whats in this book?" I asked it
All you need the creeping voice whispered
I let go of the tendril, exhaustion already lacing my mind and body.
"Michel" I called
"I heard" He said

I stood there staring down at my phone, reading over the message one more time. It was from Truman, an urgent message notifying me that the vampire council had made a move. They officially declared jacob a threat to the vampire race, calling for our kind to take action against him, asking for volunteers to fight in the upcoming battle, and asking for information.
I checked my other message, going over all the document roman had pulled up on jacob, forwarding it to Truman. Jacob had several houses and assets, just like the rest of us and I doubted any of them would be useful, he was no doubt using a secret location to house his demon army. Feeling like i was on the outskirts of it all now, being on the run with cassie, I set down my phone. Later, I'd decide what to do later.
"Coming?" Cassie thought
I could tell she was already in the pool, wondering what that perfectly showy bikini looked like on that curvy body of hers. I grabbed my towel in one hand, and made my way to the door.
"Swiming with the witch?" Adam asked from behind me, just as my hand made it to the door handle. I turned around.
"You know she's not a witch" I said definsivly.
"I know but the look on your face everytime I call her one is priceless." He said, laying down on his own bed, flipping through the channels.
"The vampire council is starting to make a move" I simply said
"And here we are on the run." He said still flipping
"You won't join?" I asked
"Not until you do. Like I said I want to be near my family." He said
I nodded at Adam, the conversation dying out I went back to turning the door handle. Adam was by me in a second however, swiming shorts already on in the second it took him to get next to me.
"I took that as an invitation to join." He said
"I meant the army. Not my swimming." I said with a laugh.
Adam shrugged his shoulders, merly reaching for the door handle I had now tried to open twice.
"Just try not to argue with her" I said rolling my eyes at him.
"With the witch? Never" He said with a smile.
We made our way down the steps, down to the swimming pool connecting to the stair way. Indeed Cassie was already in the pool, her figure splashing at the water. I smiled down at her, and she waved noticing us coming towards her.
"Adam?" She shot towards me mentally
"Yeah" He said "he insisted"
She shook her head as we neared, her blue and green eyes reflecting off the water, there bright irises dancing with the moon. I jumped in with a Canon ball. Adam soon following after me, Cassie moving back to make way for us.
Me and Adam both come up around the same time, and I swam toward Cassie. She doggy pattled the rest of the way.
"So of your living corpses does that mean you don't have to breath?" She asked
"We don't have to" Adam said "We could swim the oceans if we wanted to"
"It makes for a fun prank if you wanna push someone overboard then drive away" i said like he'd done it before
"Ow lord" Cassie breathed
Adam let out a chuckle "this one's done it to me once"
"You wouldnt quit eating the sailors" I said
"Those were the days. When we didn't care about what prick we killed." He said "Now it's all over the news if someone goes missing."
"You've killed people!?" Cassie squeled swimming a little farther away from me.
I wouldn't have it though, I swim up next to her, my prey in sight, I scoop her silky body up into my arms. She let's me hold her as I twirl us around in the water. Putting my forehead to her I gently say "that was in the past. A long time ago. I've reflected on human life sense. It's all worth something and doesn't deserve to be taken by my hands."
"And it's easier to compell someone to forget after drinking some" Adam interjects
Cassie scowls in his direction, obviously not liking his answer. Adam smiles as if hes happy he's provoked my mate. Cassie leaned into me when I turn away from Adam, her lips brushing against mine, she whispers onto my mouth "im happy you no longer kill people. I don't think I could be with you if you did. Even if it is your nature."
I grunted. Wanting to do nothing more then devour her lips.
"He only ever killed in a blood rage anyways this one. Went to long without drinking and the deity took over." Adam said swimming around.
I looked over at Adam angrily for the interruption as I was about to kiss Cassie, but a small smile graced her perfect mouth from that information. Adam rolled his eyes at me and went back to swimming laps. I looked back at Cassie who was peering up at my face like it was a marvel to behold. I stood up a little straighter at her gaze, feeling a tinge of pride. I was happy my mate found me attractive.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" I asked
"About you killing people in a blood rage?" She asked
"About the book your guide told you about?" I asked
"Do you think we should go after it?" She asked me
I stood and thought about it. What could be the harm?
"It said its your book" I said
"Maybe a past life wrote it. Maybe it'll help us." She said still nestled in my arms.
"It'll be filled with half lunacy then" Adam interjected
Cassie looked over at him then, brows knitted in an angry expression, I couldn't argue with Adam.
"It can't hurt to look for it. Ask your guide where it is." I said
Cassie went silent, I could feel her mind working it's way to her power, before she asked it her question.
What you seek, is where you used to always be it said, hearing what Cassie was hearing while I was in her mind.
"The old house I used to keep you in" I said "it has to be there."
"Looks like we're going home" Adam said and I wondered then if it was worth it.
"Have you been spreading the rumor cassies powerless?" I asked Adam
"Don't worry that rumors already spreading wide from tomas. Of how she got kicked out from the council once dreamed useless." He said
Damn tomas.
"Then let's go" I said
Cassie smiled up at me, her warm bright eyes lighting up before she leaned forward and gave me a gentle peck on the mouth. So sweet and so short, I drank in her lips. She squirmed out of my reach then, moving to swim away.
"Where's home?" She asked
"Colorado" I said
She nodded then. Swimming away she almost bumped into Adam. He hissed at her.
"Don't touch me" He snarled and she smiled, moving closer to him in a pretend embrace.
He glowered and I laughed watching the pair get on eachothers nerves.
