We left the meeting room, only to find another vampire waiting at the front entrance who was quickly shown inside after us. The man looked nervous, his worried expression, and fidgetting fingers made me feel sorry for him. Michel pulled me down the stairs, practically leaping down them. We were all ready to go.
"That went bad" Michel said into my mind
"It didn't seem to go too badly, we got to leave alive and no weird ritual." I responded mentally.
We were down the stairs and now on our way out to the rental car. Michel almost running the whole way, as he pulled me behind him.
"Theres no telling whether or not they come for you" He said
"Or jacob" I added
We finally made it to the car, throwing the door open, michel shoved me in gently. We buckled up in and Michel peeled out the driveway. The little hedges and scrubbery flying past.
"Whats our options" He said
"We have no good ones" Elise answered seriously
The sound of crunching metal could suddenly be heard, peering down at the steering wheel i realized Michel made finger print dents in it. Michel was on his phone then, his arm turning into a blur as he took it out of his pocket and up to his ear, calling up people one after another, demanding they not tell anyone I was alive. I heard Adam's voice on the last call, I could practically see the sneer on his face from his tone.
"Whats the matter" Adam's voice could be heard "She already causing trouble?"
"Shut up Adam and just do it" Michel said
"Fine" Adam said and hung up.
"Fuck!" Michel yelled crumbling his phone in his hand, the metal screeching and cracking as it broke, dust and peices falling from his hand.
"We could always go back into hiding" Elise said
"That may be our only option" Michel agreed
Cassie stealed herself. She wouldn't let these people decide her fate for her and the last thing she wanted to do was go into hiding in some backwater town.
"I'll make it enjoyable for you" Michel said "we can go on the run. It'll feel like a vacation."
"Stop answering my thoughts" I said defensively
Michel didn't say anything to that, his grip on the steering wheel still strong. The car peeled down the little country road, not stopping when we passed the turn to go to our house we were staying. I swiveled my head, watching the street pass.
"I think we missed our turn" I said
"Michel we have to get roy" Elise said worry in her voice.
Michel peeled the car around, drifting it to the other lane. I held on tight to the ow shit handle and again I thought the road is an evil place. We spead back to the road, and I swore as Michel made the turn onto the street.
"Michel! No one's coming for me now so calm down!" I yelled
The car slowed a little then, and Michel looked over at me with apology in his eyes, before we stopped at the little house. Elise ran out the car and into the house, quickly explaining the situation to Roy. I put my hand on the handle, ready to get my stuff but Michel put a hand on mine.
"I'll get you new things" He said
"I haven't decided to go on the run yet" I said and at that he let me leave.
Inside I quickly gathered my things, shoving everything into my blue bag, I looked back at my wedding ring. The urge to leave it was so strong, but there was a fear of regret. A little nudge in the back of my mind that told me I might want it later, want it for a symble of something new. I grabbed hold of that feeling at the same time that I grabbed hold of the ring, shoving it into my pocket. The horn sounded then, and I bounded out the room and back out to my future.
"There are positives to running. We can see the world again." Elise said back in the car.
"And always looking over our shoulders." I said "why not just let me do the ritual then we'll have guards"
"There's no guarantee you won't go insane and im not risking that. Not this life." Michel said angrily "and there's no guarantee the council will keep there side of the bagain."
I scowled at Michel and his logic. I didn't  want to go insane either.
"Then how about spreading the rumor that I'm useless." I said hopefully
"Keeping your existence under wrap is a better idea." Michel said
"I wouldn't be surprised if that Daniel spread it himself just out of spite." I countered
"He wouldnt do something like that. The councils not petty." He said
"I'm just sad I didn't see tomas" I said
"Really that's what you wanna focus on?" Michel asked me eye brows furrowed in fustration.
"Damn it. It seems running is the best option" I said degected
"There's one more option. To fight. But if he truly has an army then we don't stand a chance." Michel said
We were now close to the airport, signs coming up for merging lanes. I listened to the engine roar as we moved, cars flying by, I sat in the warmth of the heater.
"The vampire council will build an army. Once they do we can join it if that's our best option. Jacob's coming for all of us eventually. He'll need to be dealt with." Elise said
"What if we lure him out? Get him alone?" Roy said "using Cassie as bait. He probably wants her alive. He wouldn't leave that to the demons."
"He would want her alive. So he doesn't risk her being reborn too soon and someone finding her." Elise said
"Hell no" Michel said "hell to the fucking no"
"I agree" I said, my own need for self preservation high.
"Then we're back to running" Elise said
Michel looked over to me then, his eyes searching for my answer. The option was obvious now. I was stuck with these people. Again.
"Fine" I groan "but I expect vacation"
Michel grabbed my hand and kissed it, taking in my scent. I let his cold lips trail up my arm, blushing at the intimacy. Elise cleared her throat.
"It'll be the best vacation of your life." He said, and when he looked up at me his eyes were dilated.
We were at the airport now, the group arguing on the first location of our get away in the front lobby. Michele wanted to go to Germany, having a contact there who could get us new identities, it was a necessity. No one else could ergue with that. I awkwardly shuffled my feet as a need arises. looking around the airport filled with people coming and going, I tugged Michel to the side.
"Let me just call Aaron really quick. I need to tell someone I'll be gone for a long time and I don't want too many questions." I said walking away from him, to the other side of the lobby. I had no doubt Michel was keeping his attention on me as I made my call, feeling his eyes on the back of my head, he was watching me like a halk.
"Hello" Aaron said
"Aaron" I breathed "look I won't be long i need to tell you something" I begin
"That you'll go to couples therapy?" He asked hope in his voice.
"No" I said awkwardly "I'm going to be gone for awhile"
"How long?" He asked
"I'm not sure but I need someone to explain it to mom. I won't have cell service." I said
"Ow" was all he responded
"Look just know I'm not dead. And I'll check up with you when I can. Ok?" I said
"Ok cass" He responded and hung up.
I angrily toss my phone into the garbage can, then flip it off. I could hear Michel softly chuckle from across the room. I walked back over to the group then.
"We decided on Germany." Michel said
"Ok" I agreed
We sat in the little seats waiting to board the flight, the cramped seating making me happy for normalcy, it was preferable to a private plane. Michel lent me his shoulder for me to nap on, the firm structure of his arm doing little to help me sleep.
There was no hope was there? Of ever escaping my new life in the vampire world. My thoughts trailed back to my earlier encounter with the vampire council, the experiance not being what I expected. Spooky castles and dark corners were supposed to be the norm, but instead I was greated with a fairy tell setting and men in suites. Even if Daniel seemed a little mad. Would the demon army find us? Michel seemed confident in running, like he had done it before.
"Michel. Have you ever had to go into hiding because of me before?" I asked then
He adjusted his position, scooting back further into his seat, my head bobbing from the movement.
"A few times" He admitted
"So you know what your doing" I asked
"Yes" he said "So don't worry we'll be fine"
"I wanna go on a boat" I said then, not knowing were that response came from.
"A boat?" He laughed "that actually sounds pretty nice."
"And the desert" I said
"Done" He agreed
We sat in silence then again as we continued our wait for the plane, Elise and Roy giving us some privacy, they sat a little bit away. I snuggled into him, my body twisting to be near him, I felt the tug on my ribs.
"You'll get used to that" He said still reading my mind
"Why are you still in my mind" I asked
"I'm waiting to see if your subconcious picks up on any danger. The rest of your thoughts trickle in." He said
"Is it exhausting? Focusing on so many things?" I asked
"No. My brain can handle a lot more then yours." He said "We were built to read minds"
I yawned into his shirt, exhaustion threatening to take me over, I rubbed at my eyes. My sleep however was soon cut off, as it became time to board the plane. Quickly making it to our seats we set off for Germany.
