I was going over the book in my room some more, flipping through the pages of madness. Trying to figure something out to help the council. There were riddles and questions, answers and songs. I didn't know quite what I was looking at but I knew it was important. Could feel it in my bones. One thing stood out however. Michel. Don't reset Michel. The book said this over and over.
"Ok i get it past me" I whisper to myself.
A verse stood out then "thy holly grale! The cup of eternal bliss! I seek thee i seek thee. Show me thye presence and i will grant you madness. Under the earth you slumber, waiting for me but not me. You call but do not sing." I read outloud.
I went over the verse over and over again. But there was no point in pondering it, this book was half madness.
"This life was made for michel" I read on the cover of the book after I closed it. The irey saying sending shivers down my spine.
"You ready to go?" Michel called into my mind
"Yep" I answered back happily
I grabbed my bag and headed for the front door, throwing it open to reveal Michel. He stood there in a black hoodie and jeans, a smile plastered on his face. My breath caught a little at the sight of him, I'd never get used to that gorgeous face.
My hand lingered on the door handle, my gaze fixed on him his smile turned into a smirk and the spell was broken, I adjusted my bag and started walking out the front entry way, locking up behind me.
"So there are some thing I want to warn you about before you meet my mom" I said
"And what might those be?" He asked with a laugh
"She's super judgmental, rude, and kinda a bitch but I love her." I said
"And loves jesus" He added
I let out a long string of chuckles as we started walking down the apartnent building steps and to the car.
"Ow yes she's a Jesus freak." I said with another chuckle. "She'll probably insult you to your face. So be prepared and she'll probably get very upset when you don't eat." I said
Michel winced "can't really help that part." He said
Getting in the car I automatically switched on michels heat, feeling the warm air blow in my face. His hand moved to the radio switching it on, our hands brushing for a second.
"Are you nervous?" I asked
"A little" He admitted
"I'm sure you've never met a mother who didn't like you" I say assuredly
"You'd be surprised" He said "one life your parents forbid you from marrying me"
"You must have really screwed the pooch." I said with a laugh "what did you do?"
"I may have started a fist fight with your dad. He accused me of being a scoundrel, convinced I was cheating on you, so I nocked him on his ass." Michel said.
"My mom.can come up with worse then scoundrel" I teased
"Cant wait to see" He said with a smile
We drove up to my parents, I didn't even need to tell Michel the address, weather he got it from my mind or research on me I didn't care to ask. The drive was long but our easy banter made it go by quickly. We drove up to the little blue house, the brown tiling clashing with the paint job, but I loved it. It was my childhood home. My mom was already outside, waiting on the front porch. She waved with a happy smile as we pulled up into the driveway.
"Mom!" I called getting out of the car.
"Honey and who is this handsome man? Michel I presume?" She said opening her arms up to embrace me. She pulled away and took a step toward Michel, hugging him in turn.
"It's nice to meet you elly." Michel said
"And a pleasure to meet you." She said
When she went to walk up to the house she pulled me aside, and whispered harshly "now megan you better be watching out for yourself. That man looks like a sex God. I hope your not falling for his face before his personality."
"Mom" I hissed back at her, and my mom looked back at Michel who was walking behind us.
"Sex god" Michel whispered in my mind with a chuckle and I had to chuckle a little more myself.
Inside the house, I gave Michel a tour around the building, ending in my childhood room. Posters littering the wall, and stuff animals on the bed, michel plops down on the bed, stuffed animal in hand he squeezed it like it was a chew toy. I yanked it from his hand. He could not abuse princess chubs like that, the fat hippo precious to me.
"Don't abuse princess chubs" I said
Michel laughed at my annoyed expression, putting his hand out to take back the stuffed animal, I handed her back.
"Princess chubs" He teased
"I love her so much because... I used to battle with obesity. I was a fat kid. Mom bought that for me to chear me up." I said
"She's beautiful" He said "just like you"
I smiled down at him "thanks" I said. "The world was a better place when my mom tried to normalize being chubby for me."
"Is that why all your stuffed animals are chunky?" He asked me
"I used to parade them around and I was the leader of the body beauty club." I said
Michel gave me a gentle smile "that must have been tough, being chunky in society.
"It had its ups and downs. But im healthy now. I learned how to love being healthy even if I have a little bit of fat, it's all beautiful."
"I agree" michel said leaning down and kissing my neck.
My mom started coming up the stairs then, stopping midway, and I leaned away "can't do that here" I said, and he leaned back with a smile.
"Megan" elly called "Come downstairs food is already ready"
"Ok" I said and we quickly headed back down stairs. Running past my mom together.
"Mom michels a vegan by the way. So I don't think he'll be able to eat anything. I'm sorry I didn't mention it earlier." I said
"Really megan you should have mentioned this earlier.
"Mom you wouldn't have made anything edible for him anyways and you know it." I teased and she smiled.
"I could have tried." Elly said definsevly
"It's ok elly. I ate before we left." Michel said
"As long as your fed. That's all I could ask for." She said with a sigh
"Now megan you better eat enough for two" She said
"Ow I can" I said
We sat at the dinner table, a feast set before me, I went to work on my plate, michel happily chatting with my mom. I found out a lot of details about Michel that I didn't know before. Like how his favorite thing is to play his guitar and write songs, or how he really has a mind for buisness. He sang a song he's currently working for, causing my mom to laugh. When she asked about his car he simply said he comes from a family of old money, the lie smoothing over easily. I laughed and played along, but let my mom take the lead as I ate.
"Well I don't think i can find a single thing to complain about you. Except that you don't go to church. Megan I told you to find a church boy next go around." Elly said angrily, her scowl shining through.
"Mom" I said "I don't go to church"
"Well you should. I keep telling you..."
I rolled my eyes at the same old argument; my church habits. My hand tightened around my fork as I impaled a Brussel sprout and poped it inside my mouth.
"Mom can we not. We have guests." I said
"Yes well I wish you'd listen to me for once." She said "who knows what you've been doing. Hopefully not getting pregnant with this stranger"
I nearly choked on the Brussel sprout, a coughing fit soon insuing Michel patted my back.
"Next time talk to me. Give me a heads up before you leave don't just dump it on your husband. And yes you still have a husband." She spat
"Look mom next time I'll communicate with you and I'm sorry but I'm not out there getting pregnant! And if I was it's none of your buisness" I said
"Fine" She said putting her hands up, throwing her towel on the table "just leave me out of it like always."
"At least they'd be cute babies" I teased trying to lighten the mood.
My mom looked at Michel then, and back at me.
"The cutest" She said
We waved good by after the meal, saying farewell overall it was a successful trip. Michel was smiling from ear to ear at the end of it, when we were finally in his car alone.
"What?" I asked
"Do you wanna know what she really thought of me?" He asked
"No" i said then quickly corrected myself with a sigh "yes"
"She thought about slapping me for taking you away without telling her" Michel said
"My mom would never hurt someone" I said defensively
"Ow she wanted too. She doesn't trust me." He said
"You are a vampire" I said
"It's her instincts. There on point." He agreed.
The too perfect face, there stillness, the fancy car, and perfect manners. He was too perfect, of course my mom wouldn't trust him.
"Well I guess I was wrong. Mom's don't love you" I said with a laugh "how wrong I was"
Michel drove me home, the back street of Kansas city bustling with life and activity. I watched the people and cars as we passed. Little shops and businesses flew by, the drive silent and comfortable.
