I fiddled with my wedding ring inside the house provided by the council. I had a private room inside the quiant tiddy home, just across the hallway from Michel. I took off the ring, holding it up to my eyes to inspect the antique little trinket. That's all it was to me now, a trinket. After Michel told me Aaron's thoughts in the car the thing started feeling more like a searing constraint then a happy reminder of my beloved, of the promises we made to each other. I got off the bed and placed the thing down on the dresser, slowly backing away. I sat and stared at it before my door opened.
"Ready?" Michel asked
I sprang back up from my sitting spot, walking around the bed to him.
"Ready" I said, I looked back at my ring one more time as we left.
We drove down the long country roads, thinking we were driving no where I stared out at the open fields, and pastors. Europe was beautiful with its many wild bushes and tall trees that littered the bright green grass that seemed to glow in the sunlight, the scenery was almost breath taking. I leaned my head out the window as we passed more fields, the cows grazing on the plush substance.
"Were almost there don't worry." Michel said, grabbing my hand.
I squeezed his hand back as I went back to watching the passing of all the scenery before me. Little cottages dotted the fields, with vines snaking up the old brick buildings, they looked warm and inviting, calling out to my soul. I was about to grumble again about the drive when we pulled down a long drive way, massive black metal gates at the end with two body guards standing outside. The body guards took in our faces with contempt, there stances widening as they prepared to take in our identities.
"Name" the guard said after Michel lowered his window.
"Michel belaham. I'm expected" Michel said
The guards facial expression changed to one of regret, before yelling at the other guard to quickly open the gate. Inside it was yet again a long drive, the driveway impossibly endless. My restlessness was eventualy rewarded though as a very large, very old manor became visible through the foliage. It's massive size dwarfed the cars parked out in front of it, it was every bit what you'd think an old European manor looks like. Conjured from the earth itself it blended beautifully with the landscape, seeming to come straight from my dreams. Flowers danced along the edges of the walkway as shrubs seemed to protect its entrance.
"Ok now I'm not ready" I said
"I'll be there with you" Michele said squeezing my hand.
I peered into his eyes, feeling my anxiety rise, I wasn't ready to get out of the car. Elise suddenly burst out laughing, her soft chuckle causing me to jump out of my skin a little. Her laugh was like a song a siren sings, joyous and ethereal, it graced my ears.
"How much you wanna bet Tomas tries something with you again?" Elise said
Still coming out of my trance that Elise just cast on me, I blink dazidly.
"Elise." Michel hissed "you used suggestion in your voice just now"
"Woops." She said
"Who's tomas?" I asked then still bliry eyed
Michel took my face in his hands, and looked at me with a worried expression.
"How can you still be doing that on accident at this age!?" Michel chastised Elise
Elise profusely appoligized then. My mind started to clear, the fog lifting.
"What was that!?" I asked
"The power of suggestion." Michel said "we use magic in our voices to control humans"
"I was just excited I didn't mean to do it" Elise said "I'm sorry cassie"
"It's ok" I said "it was the loveliest thing I ever heard."
Michel tutted at my response, letting go of my face he turned back to his door, setting his foot out onto the pavement. I followed suite, along with elise.
"And to answer your previous question Tomas is a royal pain in my ass." Michel grumbles now walking up the walkway.
"Ow it's an interesting story, Tomas has been hounding after Michel for centuries. Playing tricks on him when Michel doesn't let him have his way." Elise says
"What kind of tricks?" I ask curiously
"Like putting mescaline in my blood. It's a very powerful halucinigenic. One that can effect vampires. I was ragging mad for hours." Michel said an exasperated look on his face.
I let out a small giggle at his ranting as he went on to tell me more pranks this Tomas has inflicted on him, one involving a horse. As we neared the house I reached out for michels hand, needing the extra boost of courage.
"I know your just trying to distract me now." I said
"Is it working?" He asked peering down at me as we stood at the entrance of the house.
"Maybe" I said "but your hand works just as well."
The guard at the front door opened it for us, and we entered. The inside was like walking back in time, portraits littered the walls, old ornate velvet seating in the corner, and drappings of an old fine pattern. The doors were open to the adjacent rooms, swung wide, it allowed me to peer in to see there contents. Michel starts walking up the stairs to the balcony, the old wood growning as we walked, he dragged me along.
"Do not speak unless asked something. Let me do the talking" Michel said
"Ok" I answered back, not wanting to talk anyways
We came up to a door at the end of the hallways, the guard swinging it open to reveal four vampires sitting at an old oak table, nothing before them except there folded hands. The blonde vampire in the middle looked me up and down, causing my posture to straighten.
"What is the name of this life?" He asked
"Daniel" Michel said "this is cassie"
Daniel looked me over one more time before his eyes turned to Michel.
"I'm glad she's alive again. We need her abilities now." Daniel said
"She can't see the future." Michel said
"Migel reported that she's still a psychic." The brown eyed one said "that her subconsious can."
"It's random. Not specific on what she desires" Michel said "so your needs for her won't come to fruition."
Daniel leaned back in his seat "we can make her see what we want" He said
Mkchels fist clench at his side "no you can't. I've tried. So get another psychic."
I squeezed Michels hand in mine, wanting this conversation to end already.
"There are no other true psychics in this world currently. We will perform a ritual to enhance her powers. We will see what we want." Daniel said
"What do you want her for?" Michel asked carefully "why go through all the trouble of a ritual?"
"That's none of your buiness" the one at the far end sneered but Daniel put a hand up.
"Michel deserves to know. It's his mate. A vampire is on the loss" Daniel said "raising a demon army"
Michel let in a long breath of air, then let it out, standing there still staring at the vampire council my body trembled. They were all beautiful the way Elise and Michel were, perfect skin and symmetrical smoothed out features. They were errily stunning.
"Why?" Michel ground out
"To reset every living vampire" Daniel said
Michel went still, but I didn't understand what did he meant by reset. I looked up to Michel with confusion on my face.
"Vampires can't die. Were reborn with the same deity and soul, just new host bodies. But all our memories are gone." He said into my mind.
"You wouldn't be you" I answered back
I looked back at these creatures before me, realizing all this was about self preservation for them. They must have been scared to have wanted my pultry abilities.
"And what? You can't just deal with him yourselves? Call up an army of vampires?" Michel asked incredulously
"We don't know where he is, his numbers. That's what we need your mate for." Daniel said
"Over my dead body. Cassie is weak there no garentee shell even be able to see what you want. But there is one that the ritual will drive her mad. Again. And I won't let you do that." Michel growled
"This effects you too!" The brown eyed one yelled
"I don't give two shits. Your not touching my mate." Michel said
The council men went silent for awhile, Daniel getting up from his seat slowly, the chair scrapping across the floor the only sound in the large space, he walked over to us. Michels eyes dilated and his grip around my hand tightened as the male neared.
"Michel, we can not force you but only suggest it. I know your a demon killer. You know how strong they can be." He said in a lilthy tone.
"I'll kill them all that come at me." He said
"Can you? If Jacob comes for her." He said looking at me now. I gulped.
Michels eyes widened at the name.
"What do you mean?" Michel asked
"Don't think that Jacob also doesn't know about her. Word is getting around that your mate is back alive again. Surely he'll want to illiminate her."
Michel let out a soft growl, the threat evident. Daniel took one more step forward, arms outstretched in a show.
"We can provide protection. All it'll cost is information." Daniel cooed
Some of the other council members grunted, the subtle look of surprise on one of there faces, the fourth members cold face stoic and emotionless.
"Daniel your not understanding she's practically normal this life." Michel pleaded
"One ritual and she'll be perfectly safe from jacob." Daniel said
"No" Michel said his word final
"I see." The brown eyed male said "perhaps you need to go home and think about it"
Daniel took another step forward, ignoring the brown eyed ones words, until he was in michels face.
"Yes go and think about it" Daniel said
Michel let out another low growl, Daniel's gaze drifting down to me, michels growl grew louder. Elise put a hand on his other arm then.
"I think we will go home and think" Elise said
"Good idea" Daniel said "you may leave now"
