Chapter 26

Mason's POV:

"So Mason it's been awhile." Mrs.Matthews started over dinner. "Yeah I guess college has taken some of my time and I'm trying my best to catch up with all family and friends." I explained. "mason got a big part in a movie." Haven spoke up. I hid my face and looked down. "what movie?" Tessa one of Haven's younger cousin asked. "The Maze Runner." I answered. "Isn't that a book?" Febe asked curious continuing to eat her meatloaf. "Yes, but they decided to make it into a movie, Haven actually got me the audition." I said smiling at Haven. "Really?" Matthew Haven's younger brother asked "Yeah." I answered "She can't even get herself a job." Alina Haven's older sister said "That's not true I have been busy with college and I have money saved up." Haven answered trying to keep her cool. "yeah that money is probably from you messing around with guys." Alina answered smirking. "That's enough." Haven's mom I interrupted raising her voice. I grabbed haven's hand since she was sitting next to me. What he brother and sister started sorta pissed me off. "Can I be excused?" Haven asked getting up. "of course." Her aunt answered while haven's cousin Tessa and Ethan sat there silent along with Jamie Haven's youngest sibling. Mrs.Matthews had taken Matthew and Alina outside. "I will go talk to Haven." I said getting up from my spot getting Haven's plate along with mine.

"Mason?" Febe asked me "yes?" I asked politely. "what Alina said was it true?" Febe asked curious. "no of course not, Haven had gotten some small jobs in high school and saved money up." I answered "okay I just wanted, Haven to be safe." Febe answered I gave her a warm smile going to the kitchen washing our dishes then going up to Haven's room.

I knocked gently on her door. "Haven, can I come in?" I asked "no." she answered "please." I asked pleading. she didn't answered so I just walked in. I saw her laying on her bed laying flat down on her stomach burying her face in her pillows. I sat next to her. "Hey." I said still no response. "I know you probably hate your brother and sister right now, but I'm sure they didn't mean it." I said rubbing her back. "That's the thing everyone says they don't mean it that it's just a sibling tease. But if its that then why have they been treating me like that since I was younger. Im never good enough for them I don't fit in." Haven said turning around sitting up next to me. "listen I know it's hard to fit in." I started she stayed quiet waiting for me to continue. I stared at her making sure she wanted me to go on. I noticed her fidget with her sweatshirt that she wasn't wearing when she was downstairs. "Haven?" I asked taking her hands. "yeah?" She asked taking them away having one of her sleeves move up. I quickly grabbed her wrist making her flinch. I rolled one of the sleeves up and saw multiple cuts on her wrist, I noticed that she had some faded ones too. How can I let this happen I was suppose to protect her.

She had tears coming from her eyes, I brought her wrist towards my lips and kissed it gently. "I know not everything is easy, everyone's not nice, but you know if we keep focusing on the bad then we can never move forward and onward people have their ups and downs and sometimes it causes them to take it out on relationships they have or the people they love. Staying strong and patient is what get you through it, and having people around you that love and care for you helps too. Haven I love you and I'm going to make you feel wanted. I love you Haven." I told her truthfully putting my arm around her bringing her close to me. "Thank you. I love you too." Haven said turning to me and leaning in towards a kiss. Right before our lips touched the door swung open stoping us. Her dad stood at the door furious Alina at his side

"I told you she has been sleeping around with guys." Alina said crossing her arms her dad came storming towards us. "Dad that's not true, you know it." Haven said standing up along with me by her side. I examined her dads face his jaw was clenched and his fist were balled up. "Is that true? how did you get extra money?" Her dad tested. "Dad you really don't believe me?" Haven asked unable to believe this "Mr.Matthews Haven has been saving money up since high school." I spoke up. "Doing what?" Her dad shouted. "Sleeping with guys.' Alina mumbled from behind Mr.Matthews. "That's not true, you know Haven's not like that." I defended "Im not sure anymore, you just being in her room you about to kiss her that's what is pushing my buttons." Mr. Matthews yelled pushing me back.

"Dad you have known Mason since we were 10, and I was the one who was about to kiss him okay." Haven said raising her voice a bit. "Why were you gonna kiss him last thing I heard you two broke up." Her dad taunted "We sorted things out." Haven simply said. "Did you well that's a shame, Mason get out of my house and never speak to my daughter again." My dad shouted "Richard stop it, You are going way out of hand here." Haven's mom said stepping into the room trying to calm her husband.

"How can I our daughter is a slut." Her dad shouted once more. He had gone passed the line. "You know what kick me out of your house, I don't care but I know one thing for sure is that I love your daughter I love Haven and I'm not going to let you treat her like she's trash because she isn't okay, just believe her for once in your life take her word for it and not somebody else's, don't take your anger out on her because then you make her feel helpless,useless, and unwanted. And a beautiful girl like her doesn't deserve that." I yelled at Haven's father. Her dad stood there even angrier than before but he seemed more understanding.

"Mason, Thank you But I think you should go." Haven said "no I'm not going to go, they need to know what they are doing to you." I told her lowering my voice. "What are we doing to you?" Haven's mom asked Haven lightly shook her head no pulling on her sleeves letting tears fall. It upset me seeing her cry and hurt. "this." I simply said showing them her arm. Her mother covered her mouth with her hand and started to cry, her sister looked away looking regretful, and her dad looked at her disappointed. She yanked them down. "Im sorry." She said looking away. "I gently pulled her I to a hug and whispered nothing but sweet things to her telling her that it was okay,that I love her, and that he was beautiful and so on, I meant every word I said to her. I heard her lightly cry and I felt her tears on my shirt.

"Get out." her dad said. "what?" I asked "I said get out." He said towards me raising his voice. I nodded understanding I didn't want to leave Haven. I leaned into her and far her a soft peace on the cheek. "it will be okay, I promise.' I told her after that I walked out of the room closing the door from behind me walking down stairs. "Is she okay?" her Tia asked. I looked at her and shook my head no. "Im sorry, I don't want to tell you anything right now I think Haven should tell you." I answered "I understand. "Can you tell Haven I love her and that I will call her or text her." I asked politely going to the front door. "I will." Febe answered "thanks.' I said opening the door and walking away.

I walked to the beach and sat in the sand looking to the ocean. I let a tear tool down my cheeks. Something inside of me felt guilty, Like I cause some of those scars on her wrist that I made her hurt. That thought kills me inside that she is hurting so bad that she hurts herself physically. I feel like the worse person on earth, I feel like a horrible friend and like a horrible boyfriend or ex-boyfriend.
