We reached the restaurant before time and shuffled inside, Tony rattling out our names to the manager who smiled too wide at him for any of us to be comfortable with and led us all the way towards the back.
"Speak of the devil." Tony muttered under his breath just as the Simmons' and another few people came into view as we girls muffled our laughter.
I linked my arm through Tony's, which didn't miss the attention of most onlookers who had their eyebrows raised and phones ready to take photos.
And no, we weren't celebrities per se, but we belonged to wealthy families. All of my friends were from the same social circle as me, unfortunately, and all of us hated it equally.
"Anthony, Azalea, pleasure to see you here." Celia, a warm fifty year old woman with a heart of gold and her husband twice the size of me towered over us and smiled kindly, his silver-grey hair mixing with the brown.
"You too Celia, Robert. Is Anna here?" I referred to their daughter who was a total sweetheart, married, and had two adorable little boys.
"No, she had to take the boys to a carnival in their school or something of the sort. But tell me, how are you? Where's Reina and Lola?" She asked, looking behind us.
"They had some commitments that couldn't be ignored, but both told us to say hello." Tony politely spoke like the good boy he was. Like everyone wanted him to be.
And just like that I found myself zoning out again.
"Lea?" Tony shook my arm lightly and I snapped out of my daze, looking up into warm and kind grey eyes.
"Sorry, got carried away for a second there, could you please rep—" And then I saw it.
A man dressed all in black, awfully familiar shades on his eyes and I knew for a fact his eyes were trained solely on me.
"Lea, now you're just scaring the shit out of me. Should I call Reina or—"
"I'm okay, I promise, I just thought I saw someone I knew." I shrugged indifferently although my eyes itched to look somewhere else, way over there where the familiar man stood. And when finally managed to peek a glimpse, he was gone, just like that.
"Should I get you something to drink?" He asked, and I smiled at him again just as a server approached me and Robert called for Tony.
"Ms. Larau? This is for you." He offered me a drink on a tray and I frowned as I picked up the note beside it gingerly, walking a little away from Tony as I opened it who was now busy talking to Robert.
'Sei bellissima, farfalla.'
I read it, frowned, but then realised the word 'farfalla' sounded very familiar. But as I racked my brain for the lost memory, I didn't find it, and just sipped on my drink, looking around to see if anyone I knew could have passed the note.
