"You called for me, Mr. Marchetti?" I ask once I'm standing alone in his office with him sitting behind his desk, leaning back on his chair to look at me carefully.
"Come here, butterfly." He says but I stay rooted to my spot, when one harsh glare has me speed walking towards him.
He grabs my arm and pulls me into his lap and I struggle only for him to squeeze my hand in warning.
"Try something funny and someone loses their head, is that clear, Ms. Larau?" He asks and I nod, keeping my eyes down when he hums in satisfaction.
Picking up his phone, he dials a number and hold it to his ear.
"Yes, send him to me, and breakfast for Azalea as well." He says before cutting the call and not even moments later, a maid brings in a tray of food and sets it on the table in front of us.
Her fearful eyes briefly meet mine for a split second before moving away as she hurries out of the room, and I don't blame her one bit for it.
If I were her, I'd run for the hills even if Harlan was within a five-mile radius of me.
Just as I was lost in thought, I feel something push against my lips and regain my senses to see a fork with a piece of pancake.
"Eat." He says but I shake my head.
"I'm not hungry." I say but he pushes it against my lips just as there's a knock on the door and Harlan tells the person to come in and the door opens it to reveal Jose.
My wide eyes met his that widen a fraction as he looks at me and then Harlan, then me again and realises I'm sitting on his lap.
"Eat, my darling girl." He pushed the fork again and I don't argue as I open my mouth and accept the bite, my eyes locking with Jose's once again when he swallows thickly in shock before regaining composure.
"You asked for me, Mr. Marchetti?" He says suddenly as Harlan keeps on feeding me and hums slightly.
"How are the properties in France? Any new updates?" Harlan asks and I look at him from the corner of my eye, wondering where else he has his 'properties'.
"No, sir, nothing needs to be changed or done there." He says in a professional tone and Harlan nods.
"What about London? Is everything prepared there like I asked of you?" He feeds me again while I stare wordlessly at the plate.
"Yes, the estate has been looked after and is prepared for your arrival. When are you supposed to leave?" He asks.
Harlan briefly looks up at Jose for the first time, thus making the poor guy freeze in place from the utter intensity of Harlan's gaze which is more indifferent than anything else.
