"All my flowers grew back as thorns, windows boarded up after the storm, he built a fire just to keep me warm."

"I'll be back in an hour, if not less." Harlan said as I sat in his plush office chair, watching him put on his blazer and fix his tie.

"Stay here and if you need anything, ask Ms. Fisher on the intercom." He finished and turned to look at me.

"You mean Luisa?" I asked and saw him frown.

"Who?"

"Luisa, your assistant." I clarified and saw realisation pass through his eyes.

"If that's her name, then yes," He put his phone in his pocket, "Do not leave my office, no matter what happens unless I come to get you myself, is that clear, butterfly?"

"Crystal." I swivelled in his chair and watched him walk towards me, leaning down to place a kiss on the top of my head before walking out while I grinned at him.

I sighed, spinning the chair to face the view from the glass window and and stared out at the tall buildings, the cars zooming on the roads and tiny people walking here and there when there was a knock on the door.

Frowning, I turned to face the person who came in and was surprised to see Isaac.

"Can I help you?" I asked as he gestured to the seat opposite me.

"I was hoping we could have a chat?" He asked and I mulled it over in my head for a few moments before nodding and saw him take a seat in front of me.

We sat in silence for a few minutes before he cleared his throat and looked at me.

"The way you found out about me keeping an eye on you wasn't exactly the most ideal." He started and I raised a brow.

"So I was never supposed to find out?" I asked and he frowned.

"No, that's not what I meant. I wanted to tell you, I really did, but in the Marchetti family, loyalty means a lot to them and—"

"But loyalty to me meant nothing, am I correct?" I asked, hurt by his words.

Did our bond mean nothing to him?

"No, Azalea, don't say that. You're like a sister to me, I could never turn my back on you. At first I was supposed to keep you safe, as per the boss's orders, but when I got to know you, I wanted to protect you because I cared for you, not because of what I was instructed to do." He explained.

"Then why?" I asked in a small voice, my eyes pleading for answers neither of us had or could give.

"My family has been serving the Marchetti's for a very long time. My father works for them, my grandfather worked for them, and his father also worked for them. This has been going on for generations and has tied us to them in a way that they trust us, with their lives and everything and we trust them not to betray or turn on us." He told me.
