"Kissing her was a sin that made even the devil repent."

I don't know what I had thought of when I pressed my lips onto the man's I could barely tolerate, but it must have been one good, or perhaps really great reason because of which I was still wrapped around him, lingering like he'd kiss me back.

Neither of us moved, and our lips stayed pressed firmly against each other for a few moments as his hands tightened around my waist and I dug my fingers into his shoulder, the other cupping his cheek and feeling his prickly stubble tickle my palm.

Regaining some semblance of order, I pulled back a little bit, my eyes still closed as I chewed nervously on my lip and lowered my head in embarrassment as the rejection seeped through my veins.

For all his talk of wanting me, he didn't kiss me back, and while that thought made me a little relived that he might not be actually interested in me, it also stung like a total b-word as my hands clutched tightly onto his shoulders.

"Look at me." His raspy voice greeted my ears and I shook my head, glaring holes into his polished shoes, my brows furrowed.

Why didn't he kiss me back? So much for taking the initiative.

I'm so stupid.

"Butterfly," He spoke in a more gentler tone, his hand moving to my face and lifting my chin but I shrugged his hand away and turned away from him, "Baby.

My heart melted at the sound of his voice and the endearment he used but I closed my eyes in shame and dropped my hands from his shoulders.

"Can you please take me home?" I asked in a small voice and waited for his reply anxiously when he hummed softly and took my hand.

"Yes." He muttered which made me even more disappointed as he led me back up the long staircase and out of the beautiful hotel after speaking a little with the man who had welcomed us.

The car ride was silent, and I briefly saw Isaac looking between the two of us with narrowed eyes, noting that something had gone wrong.

I kissed him, that's what's wrong.

Reaching my apartment, Harlan wordlessly followed me upstairs till my door and watched as I unlocked it, stepping inside.

"Is it alright if I come in?" He asked and I froze in my tracks and dared myself to look up at him, only to look away immediately.

"I would like some time alone." I said in a monotone voice and saw him sigh in what seemed like frustration as he raked his hand through his black hair.

"Please." He whispered in a barely audible voice as I stood in my doorway, looking over his shoulder as I contemplated what to do, leaning more so towards the option of closing the door in his face, but doing the exact opposite when I opened it wider.
