"Marriage to a man like him, I realised, was like signing your life off to the devil."

"What?" I tried to pull my hands away from his grasp but he held them firmly between his.

"I'm not marrying you!" I exclaimed when he huffed.

"It's for good reason." He reasoned but I only frowned.

"There can't be any good or bad reason that would convince me to marry you." I stated and his brows furrowed.

"What if I told you it would benefit you?" He suddenly spoke after a few moments when I looked at him flabbergasted.

"What? How would marrying you benefit me in any way? It's only going to be an inconvenience, for both of us." I spoke.

"If I'm not wrong, you face the pressure of your... society." He measured his words carefully.

"Your recent break up with your boyfriend took its toll on you, didn't it?" He said it somewhat harshly, the word 'boyfriend' like poison on his lips as his jaw clenched.

"How do you know that?" I looked at him with narrowed eyes as he regarded me carefully.

"Like I said, I know everything about you, butterfly." He said that as if that was the answer to all our problems.

"When you marry me—"

"If," I corrected when he rolled his eyes, "Which I won't, just so you know."

"When you marry me, you won't have to listen to all that bullshit from anyone. You'd be under my protection, and you can make a name for yourself as well. The Marchetti name can do wonders for you, darling girl." He said.

"And you'll have your freedom, just like you wanted." He added.

"Freedom?" I asked in disbelief.

"You would be my wife, so you will have to live with me, make appearances to gatherings and parties as my wife." He said as my brows furrowed.

"But I can't live here, my home is in London." I reasoned when he hummed knowingly.

I can't believe I'm actually considering this.

"We'll live there, don't worry. I only come to Italy when I want to or when my work requires it. I am settled in various parts of the world, and London happens to be one of the main few ones and one of my personal favourites." He said.

"Why is it your favourite?" I asked suspiciously.

"Do you really want to know?" He asked, his face tilted to a side in the slightest when I scrunched my face up and shook my head quickly.

"No, thank you," I said quickly, "So you have work there as well?"

"Yes."

"I've never heard of you." I stated with my eyes narrowed.
