"I let it fall, my heart, and as it fell, you rose to claim it."

The ride back was quiet

The ride back was quiet. A bit too quiet for my liking and I was sure Harlan could hear my racing heart because of the hand he had resting on my bare thigh the whole way back.

"Are you dropping me home?" I asked quietly when he briefly glanced at me, his dark eyes shining.

"No. You're coming with me." He spoke gruffly when I nodded once, gulping, and looked out once again.

"You're leaving for France tomorrow." He spoke after a while when my head snapped towards him.

"Tomorrow? But I haven't packed anything yet!" I said, panicking a little when he squeezed my thigh, making me sit right back.

"Your friends will do it for you, I've arranged for everything with your cousin, Jameson." He said and I nodded once, my hands forming fists.

"What time is the flight?" I asked.

"Afternoon," He spoke tightly, "You'll have the week and you're returning on the weekend for the wedding."

His words made me tense and I could feel the fear claw its way up my spine as I swallowed thickly and nodded slowly, trying to wrap my head around the fact that by the next weekend, I'll be a married woman.

Not scary at all.

"So I'm staying the night with you?" I asked again just to be sure when he hummed, not bothering with a response as we entered the building's garage before taking the elevator to Harlan's penthouse.

The ride up was tense and filled with a silence that was not at all comfortable, and I was glad to hear the 'ding' of the elevator as Harlan scanned his card and typed in the code before the doors opened and I took a step forward only to to be hauled up and thrown over the man's shoulder.

"Put me down!" I gasped at the abrupt action but he didn't bother with a response as he went upstairs towards his bedroom, skipping every other step and making me close my eyes tightly in fear of us falling down before throwing open his room's door.

I yelped when he threw me onto his bed, making me bounce slightly as he tugged at his bowtie and then his blazer, throwing them behind him before starting to unbutton the waistcoat and then the first two buttons of his shirt.

I watched nervously, my chest heaving with anticipation and fear both as he climbed over me, hovering dangerously close as I pressed myself into the mattress, my hands clutching onto the sheets in a death grip.

"W-What are you doing?" I whispered, my voice wavering along with my confidence as he ran a cold finger down my cheek and all the way to my throat, leading to the dip in my dress at the chest.

"I told you that you were mine for the night, did I not?" He asked, titling his head to a side curiously when I gulped and tried to say something, but nothing came out.
