Chapter 1 - Adaptable Introspection

Maddison's pov

I've been dreading this day for the last 3 weeks. Today was the day I was going back to school.

Ever since the incident, school has been closed for the last 2 months. no one knows it was me but the guilt doesn't stop itself weaving it's way in. not wanting to think about it anymore, I zipped up my hoody, grabbed my bag and went through the kitchen window.

The door handle had broken during one of my brother and his girlfriend's arguments, so now the only exits were the kitchen and bathroom window.

I threw my bag then climbed out after it. I plugged my headphones in and began my journey to school.

It was a 10 minute walk, but seeing as Liam was out for my blood it felt longer.

Liam and I were really close friends until he confessed feelings a couple years ago at a party.

We were drinking,dancing kinda making out at some points. We were wasted. We walked home together then we turned into an alleyway and he started to put his arm around me.

Then he started kissing my neck and he kept going for more and started to get aggressive.

I shoved him off and ran home crying. The next day Liam tried apologised but my brother told the school and threatened to beat him up if he ever touched me again.

Now whenever he sees me he shouts slurs, pushes me and blames me for getting suspended. I usually ignore him.

I miss our friendship. We had been friends for 4 years and it ended too quickly.

He wasn't a bad guy for the most part. He had always been my shoulder to cry on, my cuddle buddy, partner in crime even my best friend. I don't tend to trust many but I trusted him.

My thoughts were cut off by the sound of a car. Liam and his friends pulled up beside me. I pulled my hood up and continued walking.

I was overwhelmed with stress and guilt, I couldn't deal with them today.

They continued to trail next to me, I flipped him off.

"Ooo ghost finally come back to life?" He said with a chuckle. I ignored him and continued walking.I heard one of the car doors slam, then felt a presence behind me.

"Hey Mads!" He shouted. He jogged to catch up with me. We walked in silence.

I increased my music and continued to give him the silent treatment.

I felt my hood being pulled off. I turned to look at him, while taking out my earphones.

"What?!" I said, losing patience.
"Don't be like Mads. That's not how you should talk to me." He smirked.

"fuck off Liam and don't call me that"

"Why... best friends have nicknames for each other, don't th- woah! Your eyes are glowing" he said, his smirk dropping.

My fist unclenched and I blinded in confusion, stepping back.

"ugh whatever, just leave me alone" I stated with realisation of what had probably happened.

I first noticed my 'powers' when my neighbour Carl broke my skateboard. I went home and caught a glims of my reflection ; my eyes were glowing. Then his kitchen caught on fire.

I didn't know what was happening or why things were mysteriously catching on fire but I knew it was my fault.

We arrived at school, the day going by quickly. I didn't hear much from Liam after this morning.

It was finally the best part of the day. Leaving school.

I started walking to the library, that was one of my two jobs. The library wasn't normally busy so I would just do homework and listen to music.

There were a few people checking out books and studying. Before I knew it was time to go.

The sun was setting. I said bye to the manager and other librarian. I started walking to the small diner on the corner of my street.

I grabbed my apron and went to the counter. Other than Liam I never really had any friends. All my coworkers were annoying so I just stuck with my own company.

The night went quicker than normal, before I knew it I was walking home. It was quite dark and peaceful.

I was giving to a random song on my playlists when I felt two hands grab my waist and mouth. The hand on my mouth has a cloth with some weird smelling concoction.

I was being hauled into a high tech vehicle. My vision started to blur. Then it went silent and dark.
