"Maddison...Andrew!?" I could hear distant shouting.I opened my eyes, squinting from the harsh light while I adjusted to my surroundings.
"In the arcade" I heard from above me.
I immediately forced my eyes open, tilting my head up. I saw Andrew smirking down at me. His hair lay in a mess while his arms rested behind his head.
"Ew get away from me" I said, realising we were cuddling. I rolled away from him forgetting we fell asleep on the couch; I found myself landing on the floor with a thud.
Andrew chuckled aloud as he watched. "You were the one snuggling into me" he defended in an unbothered tone.
I rolled my eyes and stood up ready to exit the room. I can't believe I was cuddling up to Andrew after he was being a dick. I continued to mentally scold myself as I left.
Noah entered the room greeting Andrew as I made my way down the hallway. I reached the top of the staircase when I realised my bracelet was missing. My brother had got it for me, before I was sent off to live with my uncle, that thing meant everything to me.
It reminded me about the good parts of my childhood before everything got flipped upside down. It reminded of the good moments we shared before he got into drugs, back when he behaved like a true brother.
I quickly ran back downstairs making my way to the basement. I checked everything. It wasn't there.
I tried to remember the last time I had it, while making my way speedily over to the arcade. Maybe it fell off when we were playing one of the games I thought to myself.
I heard distant voices as I approached the room. I was about to enter when I heard my name.
"It's nothing, we both couldn't sleep so we came here and played some stuff" I could hear Andrew saying, faintly.
"Looked like you both slept perfectly fine to me" Noah chuckled. I smiled at his remark remembering how we fell asleep just talking.
"Just let it go, nothing is going on between us. I would never try to start anything serious with her." He responded bluntly, with a grunt of exasperation.
I rolled my eyes brushing off his words. Why should I care that he doesn't like me, it's not like I'm attracted to him, I began lying to myself.
"I see the way you look at her, the way you pretend to not care but still protect her." Noah added, increasing the tension that clung in the air.
"Whatever." I heard Andrew let out.
The sound of footsteps nearing the door pulled me out of my trance. I quickly moved away from the door pretending I was walking in the hall. I watched Andrew exit the room. He swiftly moved past me in a motion of anger. I walked into the room remembering why I came.
"Hey Noah" I said as I spotted him on the couch.
"Hey" he sighed.
"Are you okay?" I questioned.
"Yeah, just a bit tired. That floor is not as comfortable as Libby made it look" We both laughed.
"We should probably get ready for training" he said, nodding his head towards the door.
"Yeah, I'm gonna look for something first, but you go ahead,I'll catch up with you guys." I began looking for the bracelet. I looked on, under and in-between everything. My bracelet was nowhere to be found.
I felt the air dissipate from my body as I suddenly hit the ground. My heart jumped at the speed of lightning, threatening to burst from my chest. My eyes shifted in and out of focus while my chest tightened as though it was going to collapse in on itself.
My hand quivered as I raised it to my chest - gasping for air. The room began spinning. I closed my eyes hoping to seek comfort in my thoughts; there was nothing. I felt like I was choking.
I didn't know what was happening. I didn't like it. I didn't know how to make it stop.
I crouched on the floor, hugging my knees waiting for it to stop. I felt a hand on my back. I was paralysed in pain.
"Maddison...Maddy!" The muffled call barely reaching my ears, the nickname indicated it was Andrew.
I forced my eyes open as he began speaking to me. His deep voice descended into my ear, calming me down.
"It's okay, just try calm down and focus on your breathing. Albert is on his way."
He caressed my back while I took in deep breaths. I began to feel better as I raised myself from the floor, with Andrew's support.
I gathered energy to push Andrew away - remembering what he said earlier. I realised my mistake when I stumbled into an arcade game.
"Maddison-" Andrew reached out.
"Go away" I cut him off as I felt the tears begin to gather. I was so embarrassed about him seeing me in this state I began to cry. The thought of anyone seeing me at my weakest made me want to cry.
In an uncoordinated manner I made my way out of the room and up the stairs.
"Maddison wait"
I ignored Andrew from behind me as I continued engulfing shaky breaths. We reached the hallway to our rooms.
My breath quickened as I continued to hold in my tears. I felt something wrap around my ankles holding me in place.
"Let go Andrew" I warned.
He stopped in front of me, his iris slowly turning back to their normal color. The thick vines that ripped through the ground shrunk away. The once large holes returned to the smooth surface of the marble floor.
"What's going on, are you okay?" He placed his hands on my shoulders while concern crippled his face.
The sudden concern and comfort was too overwhelming. I didn't say anything as I felt the tears begin to overspill.
Not daring to see his reaction and fake sympathy, I moved away from him with my eyes trained on the floor. Entering my room I slammed the door in his face and let misery consume me.
