The Twinkie pulled up to the Wreck. At some point during their drive JJ absentmindedly put his hand on Grace's thigh driving her even more insane.
"Stealing drones makes you hungry," Kie commented as the all piled out of the van, JJ wrapping an arm around Grace's waist on their way to the door.
"What I would do to a beer and shrimp and grits right now," JJ commented, squeezing Grace's waist.
"It would not be pretty," Pope added.
The Pogues all walked into the Wreck, "Hey dad. How'd we do?"
"Didn't turn it over once."
"Hey Mr. C!" Grace smiled. Kie and Grace stayed with Mr. C while the boy huddled up in the dining room.
"Hi Grace."
"It's probably just bad luck because of the storm," Kie spoke as she hugged him.
"Yeah, happens to the best of us," Grace shrugged.
"Yeah, I'll be sure to tell the banks that," he sighed.
"Guess now is not the best time to ask for free food for me and my friends?" Kie released their hug and smiled up at her dad.
"Look at them. They're greedy pelicans. I told you to stop hanging around them. You too Grace," Mr. C looked over at her.
"Well, everybody at the Kook Academy hates me, Dad." Sensing that this was a daughter-father moment Grace headed over towards the boys.
JJ looked at her, eyebrows raised, silently asking where the food was. She just shrugged and slotted herself next to him under his arm.
Grace watched as Kie continued to try and convince her dad. When Mr. C looked over at them John B, Pope and her gave a friendly wave. JJ, who was in a slight trance looking down at Grace's lips, some lipgloss remaining from the junkyard, threw up a peace sign.
Kie hugged her dad happily and motioned for them to sit down with a smile.
JJ and Grace shared one side of the booth, John B and Kie the other and Pope pulled up a chair. They all ate like they had been starving for weeks.
"Hey!" JJ swatted Grace's hand, "Stop stealing my fries you've got your own onion rings."
"Okay? But I want fries."
"You should've ordered fries then."
"Hey, you're supposed to be nice to me as my..." she trailed off. What were they? They hadn't talked about the kiss. They were definitely more than friends and she had been pretty much craving his lips all day but they hadn't established a title or even told any of their friends.
Their conversation was conveniently interrupted when Kie hopped up from her seat and motioned for John B to come dance with her. Grace looked up to see Pope watching them sadly and sighed.
With one last look at JJ, she stood up and grabbed Pope's hand, dragging him to dance with her.
"No moping," she scolded. "We're better dancers than them anyway." Pope let out a small smile.
JJ watched as she twirled around smiling and laughing. It was captivating. Sure, he felt a twinge of jealousy but he wasn't entirely stupid. He knew why she did it. Her deep care for all of her friends was one of the things he admired about her the most so he sat back and watched contently.
Once Pope went to sit back down Grace looked over to JJ with a mischievous smirk. She grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the booth. "I don't dance sunshine."
She giggled, "Baseball, dancing, same game."
He frowned at her, confused.
"High School Musical, weirdo," she flicked him on the forehead.
