"You see all that on the ground?" John B pointed after the trio broke apart. "That's loose gold."
"Oh my god, it's everywhere," Sarah gasped.
Grace stared down at the glimmering gold. "JJ would be losing his mind right now."
John B grinned at her. "He so would."
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Grace asked.
Sarah nodded quickly. "Mm-hmm."
"Yeah," John B agreed.
Without the need for any further communication, the teens clambered down into the cavern of gold.
"Oh my god, it's everywhere," John B voiced their collective thoughts once they made it down safely.
Grace let out a breathless laugh as her eyes darted around, taking in the piles upon piles of wealth.
Not wanting to waste anymore time or flares, they each crouched down to scoop up a couple chunks of gold.
The glistening gold was being held in their dirt covered hands and nothing felt better. It felt like they were on top of the world.
Grace looked away from her chunk and towards her sister and the two shared a wide grin. They'd done it and they'd done it together.
"Hey, to going full Kook?" John B was all smiles.
"Full Kook," Grace confirmed.
"Full Kook," Sarah repeated.
John B raised both of his arms triumphantly and shouted, "To going full Kook!"
Grace laughed in pure bliss. She felt like she was floating or dreaming or in heaven but she was none of those things. It was all real.
They got to work shoving John B's backpack to the brim with chunks of gold all while laughing and beaming like maniacs.
Their excitement had to come to an end at some point.
The flare that John B had thrown to light up the cave faded out until they were once again shrouded in darkness.
"It's okay. Hang on," John B reassured before lighting another flare. "Alright. Last flare."
"Guys, we should really start going," Grace warned, skin crawling at the thought of being trapped in the dark cave with no way out.
"Gracie is right. We've got 20 minutes to get back. Twenty minutes. Alright?" John B rambled.
Sarah nodded up at him.
"We'll come back for the rest. Ready?"
With one last look at their treasure, the teens climbed out of the cavern and began retracing their steps.
It felt much quicker now that they weren't wandering aimlessly and before they knew it they were back in the water, diving under and kicking through the hollow they had entered through.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa!"
None of them were expecting that familiar voice. Their smiles dropped as Singh's pistol pointed directly towards them.
"Easy now, young Routledge, easy!"
Grace felt Sarah's hand wrap around hers underwater and was quick to return the tight grip.
"Go for a little swim now, did you?" Singh mocked.
"Water looked nice," Grace shrugged. Sure, she was mildly panicking at the absence of Big John and the presence of Singh but who was she to pass up the opportunity for sarcasm.
