Connie breathed a sigh of relief as the hot water flowed down her skin.

Today had been a trying day with Steven shadowing her. Anna had teased relentlessly about it, and it had only served to made her more irritated with him.

It wasn't necessarily that she didn't like him, far from it in fact. But he was so conflicting to his old self and still so much the same. He was so charming and funny and hot that it made her brain go haywire. No one had ever made her act like this, but she found herself being a cunt to him anyways. She knew he knew she liked him. She knew it was written on her face when she so much as looked at him. That's what got on her nerves.

Boys were interchangeable, accessible, and most were downright heinous. She had no interest in trying to date after her last fling had ended.

But Steven wasn't like them. He was a half alien boy who had captured her heart and wouldn't give it back.

"Of all the schools," She muttered to herself.

After she graduated Jayhawk, she had bumped into a girl at the grocery store. She hadn't known she was crying, but they asked if she would like a hug.

Normally she would've thought they were a weirdo and declined before quickly escaping the situation but she had seemed so genuine in her offer that Connie took it.

That single moment had quickly sparked a new friendship. They started spending days together talking about life. She learned her name was Anna and she was 19, just barely into adulthood at the time. Her parents had cast her out at 16 and she had been living on her own ever since.

Connie ended up spilling everything to her about her childhood, about college and how tired she was... and then about Steven.

She unleashed years of building frustration and regret for letting them become so distant. She missed him every day, and she confessed she hadn't even dated or had sex since they had split.

So Anna started bringing her to clubs, parties, concerts. Anywhere where Connie could socialize and meet new people.

On multiple occasions Connie found herself drunk and smiling having the time of her life while she danced the night away. Anna was the perfect wingwoman and would set her up with cute guys and even a couple of girls.

Justin, Stacy, Miles, Jacob, Grace, Dylan, Adam; she'd started trying to date again and refocused on a future without Steven by her side. It was hard though, and even after an incredible night she always ached for him afterwards.

They decided to move in together since Anna had a spare room and Connie's lease was coming to an end. It was nice to have someone close to her again. She hadn't had a sleepover in years but with Anna every night was like a sleepover.

It took her an embarrassingly long time to realize that Anna had been born the opposite gender.

"How did you not know?" Anna had laughed while Connie took a shot.

"I don't know. I guess I wasn't paying attention." She was sheepish about it, realizing she'd never met a trans person to her knowledge.

"Girl, I pee standing up!" She cackled.

"It's not like I watch you use the bathroom!"

"Sometimes, I forget to even tell people. I'm who I was always meant to be. My parents won't even talk to me anymore and some people are real assholes about it." Her eyes turned downcast at that.

"Well, if they are let me know. You wouldn't believe it until you saw it, but I'm sword trained. Usually people don't mess with someone who knows how to slice them in half."
