Riya's POV
I wake up earlier than intended, the sun from the opened curtains flooding through.
I wish I could sleep my day away, and perhaps I could, but I won't be able to tomorrow. Not when my rehearsals for my next music video begin. I'll cover my bruises as best as I can with makeup and let my makeup team do the rest.
"Riya?"
I jump, immediately bringing the blankets to my chin, highly aware that my jacket and scarf no longer hide me.
I look into the intruder's eyes, my breathing picking up when I note it's Chansoo.
"Chansoo," I rasp, confusion and fear pushing their way up to my throat to choke me. "What are—what are you doing here?"
I look around, wondering if I'm somehow back at my apartment, but no. I'm still here in the guestroom of my friend's house.
"Morning." He smiles. "I heard you got back last night, but you had a rough flight. Straight to bed for you, right?"
I blink rapidly. "I...yeah, I..." I trail off, my mind swirling. "What are you doing here? Do I...do I have something scheduled today?"
"No, Riya. I came to check on you. I haven't seen you since you left."
I clutch the blankets tighter. "Oh."
His hands are buried in his pockets. "How was your vacation?"
I push out a wobbly smile. "It was so nice."
"Yeah, especially after a hectic few months."
"...yeah, I...Chansoo?"
"What?"
"Are you...are you staying here?"
"Yeah, for breakfast." He tilts his head. "You hungry? How are you feeling?"
"What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I asked."
"Oh. Sorry, I—I misunderstood." Everything's spinning. For some reason, his presence is making my insides churn. "I'm feeling fine."
"Just fine after your 'so nice' vacation?"
"Well, I—I just woke up."
He takes this in, his tongue peeking out to run over his lips. "Okay, Riya." He holds his hand out. "Breakfast?"
My grip tightens on my blankets. "I'll be right down. I'm going to get dressed first."
"All right." He lingers for a moment before turning. "I'm glad you're back."
I'm not sure how to respond, but he seems satisfied with my shaky 'thank you', and turns to leave.
I lay in bed for a moment longer, trying to catch my breath. My reaction to his presence is scaring me, and I don't like it. I don't like it, and I don't like yesterday, and I don't like today so far, and I just want to stay in bed.
As pain shoots through my neck, I realize the ice pack is no longer placed there. I peek under the blankets and at the sides of the bed, but upon not finding it, I assume Jungkook returned it to the freezer
An ache fills me at the unsettling reminder of his partial knowledge of my bruises, but I block it out, replacing it with the fact I haven't told him, so therefore, he doesn't fully know. That's enough to keep him safe. It's enough to keep all of them safe.
I sit up slowly, allowing myself a moment for the blood to stop rushing to my head before leaving the bed.
Chansoo is staying for breakfast, but everyone else is here, so it's fine. Breakfast is fine. I can do breakfast.
