Riya's POV
My music video shoot is today.
I have to go. This is for my future. This is what's become my moving force. This is what saved me. Without it, I would still be in America every day, and I don't think I'm strong enough for that; I don't think I'm strong enough at all.
I left the house unnoticed this morning. I waited until Jungkook took a bathroom break, I waited until I heard Chansoo on the phone in a room away from the front door, and then I walked and walked until I reached my apartment.
Time passed at an eerily quick pace on my walk, and now that I'm here, I'm doing everything I can to keep myself busy.
I apply makeup to each and every scattered scar located on my pale sky, and the process is seemingly longer than my walk.
My Uber pulls up, and I greet the driver, stepping in and letting him drive us away.
I want to be with my friends, but I'm sure they don't want to be with me. They don't know how selfish I've been, and I'm afraid that once they do, they'll want nothing to do with me. It's best if I detach from them now.
"Hey!" My dancer, Platinum, waves me over once I've arrived. "You look...powdery."
"Thanks."
She chuckles, motioning to Pricca, another dancer. "Look at her already in her outfit. She practically begged to wear it to bed."
"She looks really nice."
"Right? You excited to put your outfit on? I heard it was a banger."
"Yeah."
I'm suddenly next to my makeup artist's side, unaware of when this transpired. She's talking about my makeup job, and how I shouldn't experiment with it before a music video shoot.
I can hear the staff chatting. I can hear Seic in the distance.
Where am I?
My lower lip trembles.
Where's Jungkook?
Why did I leave the guest bedroom?
Your future, your lifeline; that's why.
I acknowledge my makeup artist, Sienna, letting her fix the mess I created.
As I'm about to run through the first verse, Seic appears beside me.
I jump, blinking rapidly. "Seic?"
"Your friends won't stop blowing up my phone. I told them you're here, but they won't shut up until they hear from you. Where is your phone?"
"...it's broken."
He shoves his phone in my face with a sigh. "Take a picture of yourself so they know you're alive, or so help me I'll break my phone to silence them."
I stare at the phone in his outstretched hand, wondering if a tracking device will appear on it. He shakes it impatiently, and I concede.
I take a picture, Seic giving me a look as soon as I have.
"Not even a smile?" he guffaws. "What did they do to deserve this silent treatment?"
"They didn't do anything. I'm not—"
"Whatever it is, get a new phone."
He walks away, signaling for the cameras to start.
I swallow, my breath hitching in my throat.
I hope they're not mad at me, but then again, I'm sure they are; they have every right to be.
I think there must be some way that my parents know. There has to be. What if they're on their way right now?
