Namjoon's POV
"It's almost been two weeks," I tell Jin, watching as he settles on a pair of Nike shoes. "When are they going to find her parents? It shouldn't take this fucking long."
He looks around to see if anyone's listening before responding, "They don't have any information to go on, just that her dad's a mechanic, but he could be lying about that too."
"They hired a detective, didn't they?"
"Seic did."
"Seic knows?"
"Yeah," he confirms. "Chansoo told him."
I scrutinize a pair of shoelaces. "Chansoo's around too much. Even when he's not on the clock."
Jin sighs. "Yeah."
"It's weird, isn't it? It doesn't seem like Riya wants him around either."
"Riya would tell him not to come around if that was the case."
I give the side of his face a look. "I don't think she would be able to."
He sighs, fingers trailing over the Nike symbol. "He's her bodyguard, and yeah, maybe he's around too much, but he's there to keep her safe. He probably noticed something was off with her just like we did and wanted to ensure everything was fine."
Not satisfied, I mutter, "Shouldn't we ask her if she wants him around?"
"She's going through enough as it is. I don't want to make her more uncomfortable by bringing this up. If she wants him to leave her alone, she'll tell him, or she'll come to us, but for now, we can't do anything."
I shake my head. "She needs professional help."
"The police are involved."
"No, I mean like a therapist or some shit. What her parents put her through is fucked up, and even if the police find her parents and she gets justice, I don't think it'll make the sting of it any less."
"I agree," he returns decidedly. "but I don't think it's my place to tell her to start therapy. You can have that fun little chat with her if you want. I'm going to pay for these shoes."
I sigh, watching after him.
I have this fun little chat with her later in the evening.
She's sitting at the kitchen table alone, a spoonful of porridge paused halfway to her mouth as she stares listlessly at the front door.
I take a seat beside her, watching her eyes flit to mine.
She puts her spoon down as if she's just realized I'm here.
"Oh, hi," she greets, her voice wobbly. "Are you hungry? I can make you something."
"I already ate." I notice the effort it takes for her to nod. "Are you going to eat? You're just staring at the door."
Redness fans across her cheeks. "Yeah, sorry, I was—I guess I was waiting."
"For what?"
"Chansoo told me to sit here." She shrugs slightly. "He said he had a surprise."
"What's the deal with you two?"
She blinks. "He's my bodyguard."
"Does he have to be around here all the time? The rest of us live here, Riya. If there was an issue, we could take care of it."
Her eyes widen. "I'm sorry. I know it's an inconvenience to have me here, and now he's around, too. I'm really sorry, Namjoon. I can go back and stay at my apartment."
