"Greetings after a long while, Master Yoon-sa."
In the bright afternoon sun, Sabon, a messenger, arrived at Chae Ga-won's place for the first time in a while.
"Here it is. The master specifically insisted that you receive it directly if possible."
A messenger's role was limited, and Chae Yoon-sa's interactions revolved mainly around Sabon, or more specifically, Sabon's master.
"In addition, my master expresses deep regret for the repeated inaccuracies in the information we've provided. It seems he is now paying extra attention to internal security, as this is not an ordinary matter."
Sabon dealt in the currency of information. If the accuracy of that information were to falter, it would be similar to selling defective goods and could severely damage trust. Trust was directly tied to Sabon's pride, and the sensitive reaction from Sabon's master regarding any disappointment caused to Chae Yoon-sa, a major client, loomed as an unavoidable concern.
Chae Yoon-sa, despite not having much thought on the matter, attentively listened to Sabon's words and reviewed the information on the parchment.
The format and content were similar to those before: a name, a map, and a brief description.
"So, this time it's certain?"
"Yes. He assured me it's certain. You won't be led astray this time."
"Well, didn't he say something similar last time?"
This marked the third instance where Chae Yoon-sa placed trust in Sabon's information, only to be left empty-handed. Even in the recent Gilsagol, there was no sign of his prey. Granted, the habitat seemed to match when deducing from the signs, but the Yokai fled before he could arrive. Three times, it followed the same pattern - traces present, but the prey mysteriously vanished.
It couldn't be a mere coincidence. It was reasonable to assume that someone knew about Chae Yoon-sa's ambush in advance and warned the prey, whether from Sabon or within Chae Ga-won.
"We apologize. However, our Master was confident. If someone as cautious as he is asserts with such conviction, you can trust his words."
"Well, I'll see when I get there."
"May you achieve the desired results this time."
With the mission concluded, Sabon promptly left. Chae Yoon-sa, chin in hand, scrutinized the map with a dry gaze. Eventually, the sound of footsteps announced the arrival of Yohwan from outside.
"Young Master, it's Yohwan. May I come in?"
"Come in."
Upon receiving permission, Yohwan entered the room and knelt in the middle of the room.
"Just confirmed that Sabon's messenger has left."
"I see."
"Are you heading there immediately this time, Young Master? Shall I make preparations?"
Chae Yoon-sa pondered for a moment.
"Prepare."
Usually, that was the routine - confirming information and immediately preparing to embark on the hunt. Rain or shine, regardless of his well-being. This unwavering dedication stemmed from the profound intensity of his hatred and obsession towards Yokai.
Therefore, Yohwan anticipated that Chae Yoon-sa would move right away this time as well.
However...
"Well..."
