On the fourth day of Chae Yoon-sa's absence, the masterless Chae Ga-won was restless from early morning.
Eun-oh, who came out after being called by Kang-hee, stood among the servants filling the large yard and repeatedly rubbed his eyes.
He was forced to stand up and his eyelids felt very heavy. Suffering from a headache, he had barely slept, managing to close his eyes only in the morning, leaving him in a severely sleep-deprived state.
Soon, Seo Hwa approached his side.
"Eun-oh, you're out too? Where's our Yeoul?"
Seo Hwa inquired, immediately looking for Yeoul upon seeing Eun-oh. Eun-oh pointed with his finger, indicating the roof. Yeoul was lying curled up at the top of the roof.
Yeoul, who couldn't sleep due to Eun-oh's suffering from pain, ended up abruptly leaving when forced to wake up by Kang Hee, displaying a burst of temper before darting to the roof.
"It's dangerous. If you fall, what will happen? Stop climbing up there"
Seo Hwa addressed Yeoul almost like a child she had raised in her heart, and Yeoul, in turn, followed Seo Hwa, who admired her.
"It's okay. He likes high places, so he goes up there often. But, Noona, why is everyone gathered here since the morning?"
Eun-oh looked around with bleary eyes. Roughly estimating, there were dozens of people. Though not precise, it seemed like all the servants of the main house had gathered here.
"Probably trying to catch a thief."
"A thief?"
"I don't know what the fuss is about. For days, Hongju has been crying because she lost money. Yesterday, Mr. Dongseok caught someone claiming he stole the gold ring, without any evidence."
"Oh, right. I saw that."
It happened just yesterday, right here in the main courtyard.
"Anyway, that man has a hot temper. Accusing people without evidence. If the young master were here, he wouldn't have let it happen."
Eun-oh agreed with her words. If the young master were present, the commotion like yesterday would never have occurred. Accusing someone as a thief without evidence and beating them was quite unreasonable.
Losing an item and getting worked up was understandable, but resorting to violence in such an uncertain situation... No matter how he thought about it, it was an unjustifiable act.
"Oh my, even if we don't know who the thief is, they need to be caught quickly. The atmosphere is getting ominous, and it's unbearable not knowing when the young master will return."
"When will he come back?"
"I don't know. When the young master goes hunting, he's often out of touch for several days."
Hunting? It was a unfamiliar piece of information for Eun-oh, who thought he was on leave for some personal work. Just as Eun-oh was about to inquire further, applause drew everyone's attention. Kang Hee stood there.
Clap-! Clap-!
"I apologize for the morning, everyone. But it seems we need to resolve the issue as soon as possible. As you all know, a few days ago, Hongju lost money, and Mr. Dongseok lost a gold ring. So..."
"It's not lost! it was stolen by a thief!"
A shout erupted from the front row, and it was Dongseok, the servant at the center of yesterday's disturbance, the main character.
