Taehyung impatiently stared at his room door, fiddling with the plastic cup on his table while waiting for the only person he wanted to see step through the door. He had been waiting all morning and constantly checking his phone to see if he'd be back.
He had gone through speech therapy, physiotherapy and even seen his parents. Yet there was no sign of Jeongguk.
His head perked up when a knock was heard from the room door and alas, Jeongguk stepped inside with a tired face.
"Are you okay?" Taehyung first asked as he watched Jeongguk drag his feet over and take a seat on the chair beside his bed and place a bag down.
"Yeah. Are you? What did the doctors say?" He asked, rubbing his red eyes.
"Not much, I don't know how much longer I'll be here. They said it wasn't that se-" Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows as he tried to find the right words, "Severe? So I won't need to stay too long."
"Okay, what about the side effects? Are you gonna be okay?"
"Yes I think so, they said I'll have still trouble with talking and memory, they're tested me for seizures and they think I've developed them."
"Oh." Jeongguk sadly spoke, immediately beginning to blame himself again for putting Taehyung in such a state. "Have you been in here all day?"
"I went outside with my sister in the morning."
"Well I got you snacks to try, I realised you've probably forgotten about them so it'll be really fun to try again." Jeongguk picked up the bag again and took out some sour candy, excited to see Taehyung's reaction to it.
Taehyung watched him attentively, tilting his head a little in thought as he realised the situation seemed familiar.
He could recall what he assumed was their first time hanging out together and Jeongguk had asked Taehyung what his favourite type of sweets were to which he replied sour. A smile spread across when he remembered them trying to see who could eat the most without reaction and it ended with both of them having stomach aches.
"Who do you think can eat the most without reacting?" Taehyung asked causing Jeongguk to freeze and look at him with wide eyes as the memory played in his head.
"Me, obviously." Jeongguk repeated himself and passed Taehyung a bunch of sour sweets before taking some for himself, "Ready?"
"Don't choke." Taehyung laughed and quickly began to unwrap his sweet, "You're opening them faster than me!"
"Okay wait." Jeongguk took Taehyung's and hastily opened them all for him, putting them back down once he was done.
Taehyung waited until Jeongguk was done with his before shoving them in his mouth.
"My jaw hurts." Taehyung laughed, closing his mouth when he realised he was drooling.
"Why would you put them all in at once?" Jeongguk couldn't help but laugh at how Taehyung's cheeks were puffed out.
Once their silly competition was over and Taehyung won, Jeongguk offered to walk the boy around outside as he had been stuck in bed all day.
"Can we watch a movie when I'm out?" Taehyung asked with lit up eyes, something he always did.
Jeongguk pushed down the memory and nodded, "Do you wanna watch something scary?"
"What was my favourite thing to watch?"
"Kdramas, it's all you ever talked about." Jeongguk scoffed.
"I'll watch those while I'm waiting to get discharged." Taehyung smiled at the idea, "No, let's walk over there."
Jeongguk's eyes followed the direction and he frowned, "Behind the hospital?"
"Yeah- woah!" Taehyung tripped over his own feet which made Jeongguk immediately grab onto him and pull him close.
"Are you okay?" Jeongguk worriedly asked, missing out on how Taehyung was staring at him with red ears and wide eyes.
It felt familiar once again, Jeongguk was a walking memory book to Taehyung and he left the boy feeling like the accident had never happened in the first place. It also left him asking so many questions that no one wanted to provide any answers to.
Why did I react like that in the past too? Is it normal? Taehyung pondered silently and leaned against Jeongguk who was carefully guiding him to the back of the hospital.
"Jeongguk, what does it mean if you like feel-" Taehyung paused as he tried to think of the right words, "Like someone does something and it means you feel something."
"What?" Jeongguk looked at him confused and stopped walking when they arrived at the back. "What do you mean by feel something? Do you feel something bad?"
"No, no you feel-" Taehyung scrunched his eyebrows up in concentration, "Happy, but also like shy? And your heart is really loud and feels weird. Then like, your ears feel funny."
"Oh, you mean flustered?" Jeongguk wondered who on earth made Taehyung feel like that. There was also a hint of jealousy since in their past it was always him that kept Taehyung's face so red and heart beating so loud.
"Yeah, what does that mean?"
"Well, just means you must like that person. Like as in you want to be with them and date them and stuff- when you watch your kdramas you'll understand." Jeongguk bluntly replied.
"Okay." Taehyung decided to leave it for later and took out a pack of cigarettes in his hospital gown, taking two out for him and Jeongguk.
"What the hell?! Taehyung you shouldn't be smoking after having a brain bleed- you know smoking can cause that stuff!" Jeongguk glared at Taehyung who just rolled his eyes and lit up his own once Jeongguk took his.
"My life is already so miserable, can you let me enjoy this one thing?" Taehyung inhaled the air, placing his lighter in front of Jeongguk's cigarette but unfortunately it didn't work, "Oh what the hell?"
"Wait, stand still." Jeongguk placed his cigarette in his mouth and grabbed Taehyung's face gently.
The brunette stared up at Jeongguk who touched the end of their cigarettes together. They inhaled at the same time which began to light up Jeongguk's cigarette gradually.
But, Jeongguk couldn't bring himself to pull away even when he was done. His sharp eyes stared into Taehyung's dull ones and then fell down to his plush lips that he once used to desire. That desire felt like it was beginning to return when Taehyung stared back at him with some type of need.
That stopped when Taehyung pulled away and rubbed his eye with a painful wince due to the smoke getting in his eyes.
Jeongguk took that as an opportunity to regain his composure and actually think.
I can't like him again after I ruined his life. No way.
U should anyway!
