Saturday katsuki's parents had to attend to some work matters, so y/n lounged around with katsuki all day playing video games and watching movies, not doing much of anything.
Sunday came quickly, the two just finished lunch and katsuki felt restless "I need to go on a damn run" y/n sighed "yeah you're right, can't lose our progress" out of habit he grinned at her "wanna see who gets best time?" She shook her head "can't go kat, don't worry I'll find something to do." He nodded and ruffled her hair as he walked to his room to change.
Mitsuki popped her head into the dining room "are you busy y/n?" She shook her head and grinned when she stepped into the kitchen seeing grocery bags on the counter.
Mitsuki began unloading them while y/n reached out to a bag to help "I thought we could get a head start on dessert and then get started on the curry" y/n bobbed her head excitedly "thanks again Mitsuki, this means a lot to me"
The blonde gave a nose scrunching smile "I'm so glad dear. katsuki isn't a big fan of desserts so I thought this was the perfect excuse to make some" y/n glanced down at the counter looking at the array of ingredients "so what are we making?"
Mitsuki separated the items "Hanami Dango and I thought some chocolate chip cookies" y/n smiled and followed Mitsukis directions, mixing the ingredients and observing the measurements.
She dumped a couple handfuls of dried strawberries into the food processor and puréed it into a fine dust. They split up the mochi into three sections, adding the strawberry to one, matcha to another and the last was left alone. Katsuki's mom instructed her to roll them into a ball and place them in the pot of boiling water she had started. When they finished they pierced them onto kabob sticks and set them to the side.
Now it was time for the cookies, Mistuki began mixing the dry ingredients into a bowl and y/n was doing the wet. Her eyes closed with a soft smile at the memory of her Aunt making cookies all the time. She engrained specific directions into y/n's brain over the years. Her eyes opened and she looked at the butter she hadn't added yet.
"can I do something a little different to the cookies?" She nodded "of course, what is it?" Y/n smiled "ah well my aunt practically drilled it into me to always brown the butter before adding it" Mitsuki beamed "I've never tried it. Do you need anything?" She bobbed her head "a sauce pan?" Mitsuki flipped open a cupboard and snatched said appliance for her.
Y/n turned on the burner and added the a little more than the original measurement of butter to the pan, watching it melt into the yellowy soft liquid. When the butter completely melted she began to stir it consistently, she waited for it to darken and give off a nutty aroma before pulling it off the burner so it didn't burn.
"Did you bake a lot with your aunt?" Y/n hummed while nodding her head "yeah, she made it her life's goal to teach me my moms recipes so we usually ended up in the kitchen often recreating them, but she definitely favored making cookies."
Mitsuki's brows pulled together as she watched y/n mix the butter with the rest of the wet ingredients. "Feel free to not answer if this is too prying but what happened to your mother dear?"
Mitsuki slowly added the dry ingredients and y/n smiled softly "it's alright, she passed away when I was a toddler. My aunt adopted me and raised me from then on, making sure I knew all about my mother."
Mitsuki smiled at her while opening the bag of chocolate chips. "You're Aunt sounds like a lovely woman." Y/n's face softened "yes she was." Mitsuki's heart dropped "was?" Y/n stirred in the chocolate chips "mhm, she passed away this last January. Which is why I'm here now."
