In Remembrance

Y/n and katsuki spent the next few days walking around, buying knickknacks and eating food on the beach. Katsuki had also made sure to hire some cleaners to go take care of the shitty cleanup job in her kitchen.

They were both currently sitting in her bedroom folding up old clothes to donate, figuring out what to send back to Japan and what to get rid of.
Y/n sighed as she pulled a cardboard box.

Katsuki eyed the box and scooched next to her, abandoning a box of school papers he deemed recyclable. He tapped his foot against hers "what's that?"

A sad smile etched its way onto her face "it's an old box of stuff Peter gifted me throughout the years that I didn't have the heart to get rid of." She let out a soft laugh that sounded more like a sigh.

On the very top was a couple gadgets he'd made during 8th grade, web wings and a spider-signal that was connected to his and Max's phone. She held them up to katsuki "when he was trying to get into the support course, more specifically engineering, he decided to make me some fun gadgets...it's what got him into the course." She smiled and looked up at katsuki who was listening intently.

She rummaged in the box and pulled out a pizza phone charm "he was obsessed with pizza, I swear he would've lived off it if he could've"

There were tons of little trinkets and notes he'd given her over the years but the thing she pulled out next made her squeal as her eyes watered.

"His moms cherry pie recipe! Oh my gosh I forgot about this." Katsuki was smiling at her now and leaned closer so he could look at the recipe "we can get the ingredients tomorrow and make it if you want?" She nodded her head aggressively.

So that's what they did. They woke up early and hit the grocery store. Y/n assured katsuki she would be fine baking in her own kitchen, he wasn't so sure but he decided to trust her on it.

The garage door screeched itself closed again as she hooked her arms through every single grocery bag in the trunk. She took a determined deep breath before lugging them into the kitchen.

Katsuki didn't know that every time they'd visited she had made an effort to work through the pain of being in this room. The one room she spent most of her time in with just about everyone in her life at the time.

Her heart rate sped up but she internally reminded herself of the nice memories in here, of all the meals and desserts she made with her aunt, and all the times they had sat at the table talking, playing card games, doing her homework nearly every day with her two best friends.

Katsuki helped unload the bags "let me know if we need to take this to our hotel instead, kay?" She nodded "I'm fine kat, I need to work through this and what better way to do that than making cherry pie, eating pizza and using Aunt Maylin's favorite pie dish in their honor."

Katsuki felt a pang in his heart, just over a month ago she wasn't able to even speak about them without sobbing and here she was making progress, healing.

Thankfully the cleaners he hired did an incredible job at cleaning every nook and cranny removing any evidence of what happened. He made sure to put a rug down in the kitchen to cover stains and burn marks in the flooring.

Y/n's nose scrunched with a smile "she would kill me if she knew I was using this" she lifted up a frilly pink pie dish with scalloped edges.

The two got to work and had just put the pie in the oven when the doorbell rang. "Finally the pizza is here, katsuki can you go get it while I clean up this mess?" He planted a kiss on the top of her head "be right back."
