2 months later:
I put the basket of fruits on the small table near the bed before sitting down in my usual chair.
The room was silent except for the sound of the heart monitor beeping steadily.
I took his hand into mine and brought it to my face before pressing a gentle kiss in his fingers.
"Hi, baby. P'Aon gave you a get well soon basket today. He apologized for not being able to come personally to give it to you." I spoke softly.
Of course, there was no reaction from him.
"It's been 2 months already. It's about time you wake up, hm? I may be patient but even that has its limits. And you're being very cruel right now. Making me wait so long." I pressed my cheek against his fingers.
The head and cheek wounds had healed, leaving deep scars in their place. Most of the cuts on his body had already healed as well. The cut in his eye had also healed so the bandage had been removed from there as well.
His arm and leg still had a way to go before they healed properly.
But the doctor said he's out of the woods. He made it through the critical stage.
So all that's left is to wait for him to wake up.
I reached up and brushed his cheek gently with my fingers.
His skin felt dry.
"You pulled through all those times. Even when your heart stopped, you fought and never let death get you. And I'm so proud of you for that, sweet boy."
The first month have been nothing short of utter hell.
His condition kept deteriorating after getting better. So many times, his heart stopped and he had to be resuscitated. Two times, the doctor even gave up. But he didn't give up. He pushed through.
And finally, he stabilized when we went into the second month.
I looked toward the door when I heard it open.
Sky stepped in with a bouquet of sunflowers.
A small smile formed on my face as he came in.
He brings sunflowers every day after getting discharged.
They're Rain's favorite flowers.
My thoughts went back to that first day.
He had forced Pai to bring him to Rain's room right after waking up. When he saw the state Rain was in, he broke down completely and was inconsolable.
He kept blaming himself saying he should have tried better to avoid that car. That it was his fault Rain was in this condition. He kept apologizing again and again and wouldn't listen to us. The doctor had to sedate him so he could get some rest since he still had a concussion and had just woken up.
It took 3 days to convince him that it wasn't his fault. That he tried what he could.
That it was the fault of that piece of shit who decided to drive while drunk out of his mind. The one who won't be getting out of jail for the next 15 years.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when he sat down next to Rain on the other side of the bed.
"Sig and Por asked about how he was today." He spoke softly.
Their friends.
They along with Ple and Some come visit every other weekend and stay to chat with me and Sky for some time.
"They asked when he'll be coming back to classes." He looked at me.
I pursed my lips and looked at his left hand.
