Chapter 5

"Hey, what's up," I greeted Benny.

[How's first day at Harton's? Have you made friends already?]

"It was fine, I had some friends.." I sounded unsure.

Benny chuckled. [From the way you replied, Jillian and I are still your best friends right?]

I nodded. "Nothing beats you, guys."

I was in the kitchen taking a drink out from the fridge when mom passed by while I and Benny are having a Face Time.

"Is that Benny boy?" Mom interjected.

[Yes, it's me. Hi, Laura!]

"How are you? When is the start of your class at Bernes?" Mom asked again.

I let them talk while I was busy picking out an apple inside the fridge.

[I'm doing good, Laura. School's starting next month. It was a bit sad that Iris wasn't able to attend the graduation last week.]

Yes, I wasn't able to attend my senior high school graduation because we have to leave a month early going to Summerside because of mom's work.

We talked about it to the school and they agreed that I can skip the graduation.

It's a bit sad that I was not able to spend time with my best friends but it's fine though. We can still hang out once in a while or even talk through Face Time.

"When you have your school break, Benny. You are welcome to come here anytime... just tell Iris. Okay?"

[That would be great, Laura. See you soon.]

Mom handed my phone to me but before she leaves, Jayse appeared looking like he's going out.

"Oh, Iris. You need to change.. Elizabeth invited us to come at their house because it's her birthday. Go get dressed." Mom stated.

"What? Can I not come?" I answered back.

"It will be just fast, Iris. Just come say hi. Me and Jayse will be waiting at the living room."

I sighed going upstairs.

[Looks like you have a party to go to, you should get dressed.] Benny replied from the other line.

"Wait, can you please pick the dress for me?"

Benny chuckled. [Sure,]

I opened my closet and saw some casual dresses I could wear. I took a light pink spaghetti strap dress and an ocean blue square neck puff sleeves dress.

"Which one should I wear?"

Benny laughed. [You said you don't want to come but the dresses you pick will surely get the attention of your nemesis.]

"Fine, I'll just wear a shirt." I stated as I throw the dresses on top of my bed.

Benny burst out laughing. [I was just joking, I think the pink one suits you best.]

I took a glance of the pink dress on top of the bed. The dress looks normal and general. I can wear this.

"Okay, thanks Benny! Call you soon.. you're the best!"

[I know. Call you soon, Iris.]

And the call ended.

I wore the dress and brushed my hair. I seem to look pale so I had to put on some powder and lip balm. I sprayed perfume a couple of times on my wrist, neck, and arms before going downstairs.

"The girl who doesn't want to come," Jayse announced as soon as I went downstairs.

"What?" I asked.

Mom smiled. "You look pretty, Iris."
