Surprisingly, even before entering Mondstadt, you were rather pleased to see the bridge to the city covered in pigeons. Honestly, it put you a little at ease. "Look at all these pigeons! Crimsonflank, Graywing, and White pigeons. After all, this is the city of freedom, of course there's birds." You babbled on excitedly.
Paimon raised a suspicious eyebrow towards the White Pigeon. "That looks more like a dove than a pigeon to Paimon." She said suspiciously. Suddenly, the little boy at the edge of the bridge spoke up with a glare. "Hey! All my pigeons are pure pigeon, alright?!" He said firmly.
You quickly nodded in agreement. "It's true! While doves and pigeons belong to the same bird family called Columbidae, they're two very different things." You crouched down to look at the White Pigeon in front of you. "Doves are usually smaller in size while pigeons are bigger and sturdier. Seeing how closely these birds resemble the other pigeons, they're definitely pigeons." You explained, using a finger to brush along the top of the pigeon's head who just continued to stare all around them with it's eyes placed on both side of it's head, not much caring as your gentle movements as they didn't frighten it. The stinging on your arm practically disappeared from your glee.
Meanwhile, Amber leaned over to Aether, the two carefully watching the interaction with interest. "She's quite the bird enthusiast, huh?" The brunette whispered. Aether looked on with a smile. "Yeah... She's wonderful, isn't she?" He replied with a soft look in his eyes.
Amber raised her eyebrows and blinked before smiling, oblivious to Aether's deeper feelings. "Yeah, she is pretty cool! Super nice, even when I accidentally burnt her." She cringed at the memory.
Eventually the four of you bid goodbye to Timmie and the pigeons, officially walking into the city. While your nerves had eased, you couldn't help but feel a small sense of panic upon seeing the guards and their sharp weapons. However, they let you pass through easily with a small greeting and polite nod.
Amber jumped in front of you guys, spreading out her arms excitedly. "Let me officially introduce the city of wind, dandelions, and freedom — Travelers under the protection of the Knights of Favonius — Welcome to Mondstadt!" She declared.
Paimon deflated in relief. "Finally, no more having to camp outdoors!" Is that what she was doing before almost drowning in the ocean?
She continued slowly. "But... the city folk don't look too cheery." She observed. It was true. People seemed to carry themselves rather stiffly, eyes glancing up to the sky and passing people without so much as a glance. Wasn't this supposed to be a city full of joyful people? That was your idea of Mondstadt at least.
Sighing, Amber glanced behind her. "Everyone's been put out of place by Stormterror recently." She quickly perked up with a bright smile. "But everything will turn out fine as long as Jean's with us!" Paimon tilted her head. "Jean?" She asked.
"Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius — Jean, Defender of Mondstadt." Amber exclaimed proudly. "With Jean on our side, surely even the vicious Stormterror will be no match for us."
You raised your eyebrows and grinned. "Sounds like someone pretty impressive..." You admitted. However, you were sweating on the inside. You definitely had to stay away from her.
Aether planted a hand on your shoulder. "I hope she knows something about the God of Anemo." He whispered. You nodded. "I'm sure she will," you reassured. Aether smiled at you gratefully.
The brunette in front of you then seemed to remember something. "Oh, yeah! Before I take you guys to the Knights of Favonius Headquarters, I have a present for you, Y/N and Aether. It's a reward for helping me clear out that hilichurl camp." She winked.
