It had been before sunrise when the three of you set off, hoping to make it to the nation of contracts before the festival began. By the time you arrived at the stunning city, the sun had barely risen over the horizon. "You know, when I was a child, I never really liked the Rite of Descension," you commented as you, Paimon, and Aether entered into Liyue harbor. Paimon turned to you, tilting her head in a curious manner. "Really? Why not?" She asked.
You sighed and shook your head sadly. "The Rite of Descension is when the Geo God Morax comes down and gives direction for the next year. But my dad used to tell me he comes down to eat naughty children to stop them from becoming bad people. Looking back now, it seemed more like subtle manipulation..." You murmured off in thought, remembering when your dad would hold you above his head and tell Morax how bad you've been over your fearful screaming.
"Yikes!" Paimon cringed before turning back to Aether to leave you with your memories, "But she is right. If you wanna find the Geo Archon, this is the only chance you'll get all year. Guess it's a good thing Venti brought it up earlier, otherwise we definitely would've missed this year's Rite of Descension."
Aether hummed in thought before raising an eyebrow towards the girl. "Do you know where it is?" He questioned. Paimon sweat dropped. "Well, Venti brought up the time, but Paimon... knows nothing about where it is... Ehe," she shrugged nervously.
Quickly recovering, she gestured to the elegant city in from of her. "Look, we're already in Liyue so let's go ask some of the locals. Oh, right, and about the Geo Archon, Morax like Y/N said, the Mora that we use is named after this god," she info-dumped proudly on the male.
"But it's seen as impolite for people from outside Liyue to refer to the Geo Archon by that name," Paimon warned, "So we should refer to the Geo Archon by the name Rex Lapis, like the people of Liyue do. Got it Y/N, Aether?" Paimon narrowed her eyes at the two of you. The two of you quickly nodded.
As you looked up to the familiar sight of the nation, you smiled. Despite the many times you've been here (or at least on the outskirts or alleys), it was always a breathtaking sight. Liyue was a city set on solid bedrock laid next to a vast ocean connecting the harbor with other nations.
"Hey, the Mor - er - Rex Lapis statue is just over there," you noted, nodding your head towards the large stone artwork of the Geo lord himself. "Wanna check it out? Maybe you'll get Geo power like you did Anemo." You suggested. Paimon perked up. "Ooh! That's not a bad idea. Let's go!"
The Morax statue was... certainly something. Whilst Barbatos was covered with a cloak and standing straight up, Morax let his entire chest and stomach exposed for public viewing as he sat spread legged in a Geo throne holding a cube. Like... who made this?
Your father worshipped Morax despite not being from Liyue and often brought you here. As a child, you always felt rather flustered at seeing the exposed God's chest, quickly averting your eyes as your father laughed. Surely you couldn't be blamed. He was a very handsome man after all. Your cheeks dusted pink at the thought. How embarrassing...
So caught up in your own thoughts, you almost didn't notice Aether approaching the statue as you and Paimon glanced at each other expectantly. He held his hand out, placing it gently upon the golden plate. Suddenly the statue began to glow a bright yellow - almost gold.
The Geo sigil appeared from the statue before moving to Aether - sinking into his chest. You watched as the turquoise of his Anemo dim into the bright yellow of Geo. The traveler looked over his body in intrigue.
Furrowing his eyebrows, he summoned his sword and sliced the air with it a few times before suddenly creating a small meteor that exploded into a large Geo construct. "Wow!" Paimon awed out, "that's awesome!"
