Reincarnated as Nezuko

Chapter 5

Urokodaki's P.O.V.

That night, while Tanjiro and Nezuko were sleeping, I wrote a letter to Kagaya Ubuyashiki asking if he would be willing to meet with Nezuko. 

Dear Master,

I hope you are doing well. I wish I were writing to you under different circumstances, but unfortunately, that is not the case. Please read this entire letter before making a final decision. 

A few days ago, I received a letter from a former pupil of mine, Giyu Tomioka, the current Water Hashira. He told me that he encountered a pair of siblings during his travels. However, there was something unusual about them. One of the siblings, the sister, had been turned into a demon. Before you come to any conclusions, allow me to explain.

Tomioka initially intended to eliminate the sister, Nezuko, but her brother protected her and begged him to spare her. She was all he had left. Only hours earlier, he had returned home to find his entire family slaughtered, with Nezuko being the sole survivor. 

The brother, Tanjiro, attacked Tomioka in an attempt to make him release his sister. He managed to catch the Hashira by surprise and made quite an impression on him.

And if that isn't something, then what I'm about to tell you is going to be even more surprising. To his surprise, Nezuko was able to get out of Tomioka's grasp and kick him away. Once she did this, she went toward her brother and protected him. 

Tomioka asked why she was protecting him, and she said, "Because he is my brother. He's all I have left. I won't hurt him. And I will never eat a human. Yes, the smell of blood is alluring, but I'm controlling my hunger. I don't want to hurt anyone unless necessary. The only ones that I will hurt are demons." Yes, you read that correctly. She is willing to fight other demons.

Tomioka asked me to consider taking Tanjiro under my wing and training him. I decided to see for myself what he saw in these siblings, so I met them halfway as they traveled toward my home. 

I met Nezuko first. She didn't seem surprised by my appearance and was relatively docile. She told me that she and her brother had encountered a demon at a temple. The demon was surrounded by corpses and eating one of them. After a minute or two of talking, she suddenly realized that she had left her brother to deal with the demon alone. She told me she was going back to help him and that she would meet me at the temple. 

Once I got closer to the temple, I could smell how much blood had been spilled. If I hadn't witnessed it myself, I would never believe it. Nezuko was standing about fifty feet from the temple and showed no outward reaction to the overwhelming scent of blood. I didn't show it, but I was shocked and amazed by her self-control.

She stepped back so I could speak with Tanjiro, who was heading toward the demon's severed head with a small knife. I told him that wouldn't work. He considered his options before picking up a large rock. However, he hesitated. The moment he did, I saw a blur of movement. It was Nezuko. She took the rock from her brother and crushed the demon's head with it.

She then told him, "You can't hesitate when someone's trying to kill you, Tanjiro. It might cost you your life." With sunrise approaching, she quickly retreated into the temple.

Tanjiro was still in shock over what had happened, so I left him and went to bury the dead. After I finished, Tanjiro found me, and we had a brief conversation. Most importantly, I told him that he could never allow Nezuko to kill an innocent person. If she did, he would have to kill her and then take his own life. 

We went back to the temple where Nezuko proceeded to tell us that she heard everything. She turned to Tanjiro and said, "But he's right, Tanjiro. If I ever eat a human, don't hesitate to take me out, I couldn't live with myself if I did that."
