(Y/N)'s POV
"Alright, Bella, let's go to the library." I stopped at the back of her truck where she waited. She had leaned back against her truck, reading a book. The fading afternoon light of winter should have made it hard to read, but she seemed not to struggle too much.
Edward had taken precedence in both of our minds for the past couple of months for his mystery and oddities. This is finally the time, we'll try to figure it out.
She closed her book and turned to start going toward her driver's side. "I already looked a little bit...I think I have a little idea."
"Okay," I turned back and saw Edward across the lot. He stopped for a brief moment like he could hear us from there. Once we caught eyes, he quickly turned away to his car. I closed my coat tighter with the chill that ran down my spine. "Lead the way, Bella."
We drove to this little library in Port Angeles. Light illuminated the sidewalk in front of it from the big windows. An abandoned parking lot sat close by, so we didn't have to parallel park before going in.
The lot had street lights on the outskirts of its large space. A few cars had the same idea to do this instead of parking in the street. The walk to the library was short, only having to cross the street once. Passing dingy closed buildings, one must have been abandoned.
I slowed down to a stop to look into it more, it had been the only one that looked terrible. It had a window with a large hole like something had been thrown through. It smelled strongly of its dust and damage. Old shelves and clutter filled what could be seen from inside.
"Hey, Bella," I picked up my pace to catch back up with her leisurely steps. Her head turned to me for a brief second before looking back ahead. "Why this library specifically?"
"It is the the closest one." She pulled the door open, letting me in.
"Oh, well, there was one in Forks, you know?" I looked back at her as she came through the door too. "Plus, are we even sure we'll find anything here?" Dropping my voice low, keeping close to her as if I had been telling a secret.
"We have the weekend..." She tucked a hair behind her ear. "If we don't find anything." Her eyes cast low to the carpeted floor.
"Is there anything I could do to help you two?" The librarian interrupted us behind their large dark wooden desk. She had grey and white hair tied away with glasses resting on top of her head.
"Yeah, um...can we use one of the computers?" I stepped up to the table, resting my hands on the surface. Bella came to stand next to me. She smelled strongly of coffee up close.
"Do you have a library card?" She brought her dark purple, rectangular glasses down onto her nose. Her hands sat ready on the keys.
"No, miss..." My eyes caught the little name placard on the desk, "Turner."
"Well, it would be a four-dollar fee then." Keys clicked and clacked on the old keyboard.
"Oh, Right." I dug into my wallet, giving her a five. She took the dollar, pulling a drawer open to give me a dollar back.
"When you pick a computer, use guest and not patron." She glanced back at me before going back to her computer.
We took a spot in a back corner, booting up the dated, bulky computer. Some of the keys had their letters slowly coming off. I sat down in the seat in front of it and she sat next to me.
"What should we look up?" The search page slowly loaded onto the screen. "Inhuman strength and speed?"
"Yeah...see what comes up." She peered at the screen as I typed up the words. Minutes passed until it came up on the screen. Links popping up one by one.
"What's the top one?" She bit her lip and furrowed her brows. The blue link was to this website on legends from a tribe close to here. Running my cursor across it, then clicking it.
A blog-like page pulled up, in front of us. It had a forest green background with a lighter green section for the text. We scrolled through them all. Each legend had a small paragraph for each.
One we stopped to read for a second time, the cold ones. They had unbelievable strength and speed, enemies of the tribe. At the end of the webpage, it gave a book recommendation for more information.
"Let's look for that book." I left the seat after exiting the page. We wandered the many aisles of the library. It took maybe an hour to find it, my feet hurt from the search.
It had a thick, brown leather binding, with words printed on the spine. Age and some wear showed how long it's been there. We skimmed the pages for the exact legend until we found it halfway through.
"Do you think Edward is one of these?" My eyes slowly came up to meet hers from the book in my hands.
"He might be." She whispered back.
"Excuse me, you two need to go now. We're closing." The librarian from before came into the aisle we were in.
"Oh, okay." I slid the book back into its space. We left our separate ways in the parking lot.
I opened the door to my room and jumped back against the hall's wall. Edward was in the corner of my room and gone once I blinked. My hand rested over my heart and slowly calmed down.
I have clearly thought too much about him. There's no way he was just there in my room. I need sleep, definitely.
Peeling away from the wall I glued myself to, I crept to sit on my bed. It was just a fluke. Yeah, my mind was just playing tricks on me.
