(Y/N)'s POV
"Hey, Eric! Did you know what Mr. Scott wanted?" I slid into my seat, and Bella sat in the one next to me.
"No, just that he wanted you to see him for something." His previous joking smile faded slightly. "Something the matter?"
"No, not really. It's just that I have to rain-check our group hangout after school today." I sighed, staring at the table.
"What? You rain-checked last time!" Jessica plopped into her seat, frustrated.
"They had the flu remember." Angela swooped into the conversation as she sat in her seat. "I doubt you want them to be miserable while out."
"Oh, Bella. This is Jessica and Angela. The queen of snarky remarks and our lovely photographer, respectfully." I pointed at each. Jessica took immediate offense, and Angela smiled at my compliment.
Jessica pulled out her camera, "Smile!" She smiled herself, lifting her camera. With a click and a bright flash, her picture was taken."
"We need a candid for the feature." Angela looked at the picture in her camera.
"Hey! Ugh-uh," she blinked a couple of times, adjusting to the sudden brightness. "You can't do that. I don't-"
"Hey, go ahead and delete that. She doesn't want to be in the paper." I flashed a sympathetic smile when she slumped a little. It is hard to find stuff to cover in this small-town school.
Bella, Angela, and Jessica had a short debate on what to cover. It was mostly one-sided, but I didn't pay too much attention, fiddling with my flyer. "You can cover padding on the swim team," Bella suggested.
Bella turned her head just in time for the Cullens to enter the cafeteria from outside. First was Rosalie, followed by Emmett. The wind blew in her hair like one of those hair product commercials.
"Who are they?" Bella looked at them, mesmerized by their beauty.
"They're the Cullens. Their dad is Dr. Cullen, and he's like a doctor and matchmaker." Angela chirped, sparing them the occasional glance.
"The blonde is Rosalie, and the guy she's with is Emmett. That weird girl is Alice, and the guy that looks like he is in pain is Jasper." Jessica explained.
"Who's he?" Bella questioned. Edward walked into the cafeteria, carding his fingers through his hair. He's the last Cullen to come in and sit at their designated table far away from everyone else.
"That's Edward. Apparently, no one is good enough for him, like I care." Jessica wore a small fake smile to hide her true feelings. "Don't waste your time."
"Wasn't planning on it." Bella continued to look at him in some sort of trance.
"Yeah, unfortunately, I have to." I turned to join, looking at him. Unlike Bella, I wasn't all that mesmerized by him. He was just a pale boy that knew how to play the piano that I had to talk to soon.
"What do you mean?" Jessica scoffed. "You got a crush on him, now?"
"No, not at all. I have to practice my violin for prom, me and him, a duet." I turned back in my seat, pulling out the purple paper to show everyone.
"The first practice is after school today until 5:30." I sighed, "That's why I have to rain-check on you guys. Sorry, you know how Mr. Scott is."
Jessica pulled the paper to her. "Well, it would be nice to hear you play. I doubt he will be much help to you, though." She handed the flyer to Eric. "We can hang out after." She offered.
"Maybe, I might be too tired after it all." I put the flyer away.
After school, I went to Mr. Scott's room and saw him. "Hey." I gave a short wave.
He didn't respond to my greeting as; he just stared at me as if hoping that I wouldn't come closer and to watch my every move.
Mr. Scott swooped in and saved the day. "Alright, have you to meet? Edward, (Y/N). (Y/N), Edward. I'm Scott."
"Hey," I gave it one more try. He nodded to me this time, impossibly stiff.
"Great. As you two saw from the flyer, it will be a duet. (Y/N), you'll play the violin. Edward, you'll play the piano." He rubbed his hands together and leaned into his desk.
"This will be every day after school until prom, so I hope you two get along and try to attend each practice if possible. As you can see, we don't have any instruments in here, so we'll move to room 11. Our meetings will be held there from tomorrow forward, so go there next time." He got back up and sped over to the door. He was one of those tall teachers that was hard to keep up with.
Edward and I headed out to follow him to the room; Edward rushed and got to the door before me. He held the door open with a hand tightly clasped over his mouth.
"Do you really have to do that? I know that I'm clean. Are you allergic to strong-smelling body washes or something?" I passed and waited for him to pass through the door himself.
"Yes, that's it." He seemed to take to that quickly. Desperate for an excuse, his eyes darted around.
"Sorry, I'll keep that in mind. I don't want to upset your allergies since we'll work together for a while. We might as well be nice. Deal?" I tried to make distance from him. He nodded as a response and slowly released his hand.
"This is the room." He swung the door open and let us enter first. "Here's the music sheets you will be playing." He handed us a thin packet stapled to be like a book.
"You can take a moment to look at it. Our goal for the day will just be to read the songs and try at least one time." He took his own booklet. "Most of the songs are just ones so that the couples could slow dance. There will be moments where you two could go on and do your own thing."
"Now, let's begin."
