Edward's POV
Years are passing of us staying in this little logging town. It's starting to get questionable that we age and others don't. We will have to leave here and move on, but a part of me shatters like fragile glass at the thought.
(Y/N) is here. They would be left behind as they slowly age with the years without me by their side. I couldn't handle that thought.
I may be a monster, but they view me more than that. Even when someone of my kind bit them viciously like a starved animal, they still loved me. Because of that starved beast, I have more reason not to leave their side ever again.
My salvation is to be able to see them breathe and not hurt. I couldn't possibly let go. They pull me out of purgatory into paradise.
By their side is the only place that I wanted to be, and for that reason, I refuse to leave Forks. Where they go, I'll go too. I don't need to be anywhere else. We need each other like Romeo and Juliet.
Jasper and Alice stood in my room. They were trying to convince me to leave here, but I refused.
"Edward, for (Y/N)'s sake, we need to go." Alice appealed to me. She talked to me like a child that deserves a scolding.
"Alice, it's not safe. They have been taken to near death by James." I couldn't bear to leave their side anyway.
"We need to leave. People will start to expect things. Maybe you will see them another time." Jasper added in. He stood behind Alice and stayed firm like her right-hand man.
"They can get hurt again. I need to protect them."
"I saw a vision of them. They will need us to go." Alice sounded like she was grasping at straws here.
I could read her thoughts, after all. (Y/N) with packed supplies journeying into a forest. They're all on their own without me. The vegetation, rocks, and earth spanning across the vision were all familiar to me.
It's only that moment over and over. It felt like a knife twisted in my chest to see myself not there, like a betrayal of time and space.
Many questions and worries bloomed in my head like an uncontainable fire. What could be so important about that forest? Why am I not there with them?
"Why?" The idea that they would need me to leave hurt my very being.
"If we stay here, it'll hurt them more to stay here," Alice spoke firmly, her annoyance growing apparent. "It'll hurt us too and scare the people. You want to put them in that mess?"
I couldn't care less about myself or the people around me. It's just (Y/N) that mattered. The sight of them, the sound of their voice, their smell, and touch are all I need in this life.
I would long for it in the life after, decades down the road. Their perfect visage is a blessing to my eyes. No music could compare to their words. The smell that once tempted me for their blood is more soothing, like something that I couldn't go without.
Their touch is something else entirely. Just a graze from their touch sends me amongst the stars that make the blueprint of the sky. Spending nights cuddling them after their repetitive nightmares makes me feel sane.
The thought that I'm doing good by them by any means makes me feel like I could be redeemed. They sleep better by my side, which sets my dead heart alight. Life for them is so slowly going back to how it used to be.
Jasper's POV
I could feel everything he felt. His feelings are so strong for his partner. It's strange and overwhelming. I couldn't imagine how feelings would grow so intense like this.
Alice continued to try to pressure him into leaving with us. Each time we suggested that we needed to go for them, he felt another strong feeling. It's something like betrayal, sadness, and rejection rolled into one tightly wound-up state of mind. It's like it physically pained him to do this at all or to think about detaching himself from this town at all.
His love for them is intense, like an out-of-control flame. It's thick and intense, like a fog clouding his common sense. He would do anything for them, even if it would cause him death. This doesn't seem right.
For the greater good, I concentrated on him to change his emotions for something different. I tried to have the effect that we need to leave for their safety.
My eyes stayed locked on his in my focus. (Y/N) It would be just fine without him.
Edward's POV
Tension consumed me in one swoop. I can hear Jasper's thoughts and feel what he's trying to do. The urgency to leave is fading more and more from my interest.
If there is anywhere that I want to be, it's by their side. I'm already damned to hell at the end, so the in-between didn't matter. I just need to be by their side as much as humans need to breathe.
They are what I live and breathe. "I need to keep them safe. James' people could take vengeance." I could remember the tiniest vision that Alice saw.
It was fleeting, but it stuck with me. I couldn't risk anything. They are my life, my beginning, and my end. (Y/N) is who I love and who I live for.
Even the thought of them around men and women in such close-knit circles bothered me. I would rather press each one's nose into the ground than bear through them talking.
I can't possibly leave. I'm going to stay no matter what the townspeople think of me. They need me; they practically tell me that. I help them sleep; they don't have nightmares when I'm around. I'm needed.
