(Y/N)'s POV
"You look amazing!" I cheered for Angela as she left the dressing room. Her sleeveless dress had a beautiful light pink color with a small bow around her waist. She got into the mini podium in the small shop, giving a spin to show the whole dress.
"It's like that dress was made for you, Angela." Jessica smiled from ear to ear leaning over her lap with arms supporting from the outer side of her knees. She enjoyed most of the dresses she tried. "Much better than that green one from before."
"Yeah, I really didn't like that one." She ran her hands along the skirt's fabric, looking down on it.
"Bella, do you want to have your turn?" Angela turned to her, fiddling with her hands.
"No, I rather read." She gently shook the book in her hands, the book we found from that library a few days back. She continued to read curled into the wide yet small window ledge, leaning against the bookcase next to the ledge.
"Ugh, why even come Bella, if you're not going to try anything on?" Jessica got onto her feet with her dresses on their hangers in tow.
"(Y/N), I found this outfit for you, while looking for mine. Could you go try it on?" She slowly plucked one of the hangers in her hands to give to me.
"Oh, thanks," I took it from her hands and slowly made my way to a dressing room next to Angela's. I pulled the thick black curtain across the booth's walls. A small circular light gave at least some way of seeing around in the small space, hanging the outfit on the hook.
"So, (Y/N), how's those practices with Edward?" Jessica's raised voice teased from past the curtain.
"He's...exhausting to deal with, to put it at the least." I stopped to ponder on how I would put it in words. He had been a mild annoyance, he did get the task at hand done at least, though. "Why?"
"I just wondered...It's not like I really cared." Curtains from far away were quickly drawn open to shut shortly after. I knew she did care, she had a crush on him, and she thought he had perfect looks.
"Why don't you ask Mike? Don't you have a crush on him?" I knew that about her too. She was like an open book, only in fine print, though. You could find out a lot about her if you paid attention.
"I haven't thought of that...do you think he likes me?" I could almost hear the smile she had at the idea of him wanting to go to the dance with her.
"Yeah, I bet he's just too scared to ask you about it. So you should ask." I stepped out of the booth. "Besides, what are the chances that Edward doesn't just disappear on the night of prom?" I got onto the mini platform and I saw myself in the mirror.
"He's been a no-show to at least 12 practices now of like...30 or something." Twisting and turning, I took in as much of the outfit as I could see. I felt a sense of confidence in it.
"What do you guys think of this outfit?" I continued to inspect all I could see of it. "I know this is just the first one I tried on, but I really like it." a curtain pulled open behind me, and I turned to see Angela.
She had since got back into her regular clothes, the dress back on its hanger in her hand. "You look good in it." She looked up at me, and Jessica quickly popped her head out of the booth to see too.
Jessica's head floated in the sea of the thick black curtain. "Yeah, I think this is the perfect one. I have good eyes, I saw it and knew it was so you." She slipped back behind her curtain.
I chuckled at her words before stepping down from the pedestal. "Alright, I'm going to go change back into my clothes."
"Okay, back to talking about Edward," Jessica spoke back. I slipped back into the stall.
"Well, there's not much to say. He's not that talkative. He'll be nice but push me back tomorrow, you know?" I slipped the top off my shoulders.
"Oh? What do you mean?" Angela asked.
"Like, we had this deep talk about instruments and so on, how I learned to play from my late grandpa. But then the next day, he was like, oh, we shouldn't be friends." I mocked his voice, slipping my pants back on.
"He does that?" Jessica's curtain pushed open.
"Yeah, and I thought he was starting to be decent." I stepped out with the outfit on its white, plastic hanger.
"That's strange." Jessica posed for the mirror.
"Yeah, it is." I sighed, taking a seat. "You look good in your dress, by the way."
"Oh, thanks, I might get this one." She left for the booth.
"Alright, I'll go ahead, pay for my stuff and wait outside." I took it to the man in the front of the store. He rang the outfit and I looked outside. Edward stood outside on the sidewalk, looking at me.
"That'll be $60.45." His voice snapped me back to what I was doing.
"Oh, yeah." I gave him the money, glancing back at Edward to make sure he was real. He tilted his head slightly and smiled.
"Is that your boyfriend or something?" The cashier grabbed my attention again, tired of me.
"No, sorry." I took the bag he offered.
"The receipt is in the bag." He said like it was the billionth time that day, rolling his eyes.
"Thanks, bye." I pushed the door open, with the bell chiming up above.
"Edward," I stopped two steps from him. "What are you doing here?" I whispered, my eyes shifting around.
"I was looking for you...I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go out to dinner with me."
