Luida draws the medicine into a syringe and comes up to you. She slips one of your arms out from Vash's grip and administers the liquid. You already seem better, your face expresses less pain and instead looks relieved. She examines your face and arm, noting the way the glowing marks appear almost like patches on your skin. It fascinates her. Luida has seen Plant markings on both Vash and the other plants, but she has never seen or heard of anything like this. The vibrating of the tablet stops.
"Vash," Luida's hand gently pats his shoulder, "you did a good job."
The man, still gripping one of your hands tightly, lifts his head from yours and slowly opens his eyes. The sight shocks him and leaves his mouth open. He looks at your confused eyes fluttering open, one side of your face covered in glowing marks much like his own, they creep onto one of your irises, the other eye lacks the same glowing, just a few lines appearing around it.
"Iris..." He is left breathless, his wide eyes nailed onto yours.
"Red... your face..." You manage to speak before feeling too tired to carry on, and your eyes close again, but this time it's not so much your consciousness slipping away as the utter tiredness in your body taking over.
He grabs your hand tighter as the marks slowly fade away again. He is still at a complete loss as to what just happened, but you looked heavenly, that's all he is sure of. Your beauty is unmatched by anything this universe has to offer.
"Luida..." he speaks up, his eyes still stuck on you. He doesn't even know how to continue, how to formulate the questions whirling in his head.
"Some time ago, Brad managed to fix a scanner on this ship we didn't even know about." Luida starts speaking while settling you in more comfortably and covering you with a blanket. "As much as Brad could figure out about it, it apparently measured disturbances in something called the Higher Plane, it seemed to be a much larger version of the monitoring nodes inside the Plant cases. Neither of us are Plant engineers, and a lot of the research is classified, so most of what we went off of were guesses. Keep that in mind. Either way, Brad got the scanner working again, but it didn't do much, very rarely did it pick up some signals, and since we hadn't managed to quite overlay it on a map, we didn't know what it picked up. There was no rhyme or reason apparent. That's until about half a year ago, when the equipment started to pick up much stronger signals. They were rare at first, and they weren't as random anymore in where they appeared. As time went by, the appearance of the signals got more frequent and stronger. They seemed to appear in a line, more or less, it was most likely one signal or one emitter moving. We decided to investigate, but soon realized that our mapping of the radar was off by quite a bit, so we ended up at Witches End. That's when Brad figured out that the weaker, randomly and rarely appearing signals were Plants that had malfunctioned even just briefly. Thanks to that, he managed to correct the coordinates, and we had to fix our course by moving east. Lucky for us, the signal we were chasing had been standing more or less still, but we didn't want to travel to September quite like this. To our surprise, the signal changed course too, starting to move somewhat parallel to us. And a few hours ago, the scanner picked up a massive spike very close to us. And another one just now."
Luida had held your other hand and gently stroked it before laying it on your side. She looks at Vash tentatively, he stands there a little hunched over, his fingers still gripping at your hand. He looks like a statue as he processes everything Luida just told him.
"So she was the source of the signal?" he finally manages to quietly ask.
"I believe so, yes." Luida answers with a kind smile.
"But how?"
"I'll hold out on giving you my verdict till I get the test results back, but I think you have come to a conclusion already."
