The picture drops out of your hand again, but it doesn't matter; it is already burned into your head. The uniform, especially the one the woman was wearing, comes back to you as if you had only seen it yesterday. You back away from the picture into a chair that you almost knock over. You know the gray bodysuit, the long sleeves, and the turtleneck. You know the white and gray shirt covering the garment. You remember the asymmetric neckline and short sleeves. You feel like you're in a bubble; you can't even hear Vash calling out to you. Your eyes have glassed over; you don't see him picking up the picture and wondering what made you react that way. Could it be that you are so shocked, having figured out that it's him as a child? He can't imagine you would react this way, and could you figure it out during the split second before your visceral reaction? He steps closer to you, and you still seem to try to back away, not noticing anything around you. He is afraid you might hurt yourself.

Vash takes a hold of both your arms and gently shakes you, calling out louder, but you don't see him; you don't hear him. The screams have completely taken over your brain; they echo back from every corner. An image of the spaceship's lab is painted in your head, and all you can hear is screaming coming out of your own throat. The procedures are so painful that they have you throwing your body in the binds, shaking the whole table that you are tied to. You can't see the face of the person looming over you, only the uniform—the same gray and white ship uniform. You feel like your whole body is on fire, with every cell in you tearing apart. You run as fast as you can, the air feels like lava in your lungs, and you tear off the last of the equipment attached to your body: the tubing, the needles, and the sensors. The whole ship is on fire, the metal screaming as it is ripped apart. As you dodge the fallen pipes and the debris, a trail of blood follows you.

"Come back! Don't you dare run away from me! I am your creator! I am your Father! I am God! Maggots like you don't get to run from me!" His yelling echos over everything else. It makes your blood run cold, in contrast to your melting body. You refuse to be caught; you'll run forever if you have to. From the distance, you are still hearing screams—your screams, they never stop, the horrors of the lab condensed into that blood curdling sound.

You force yourself to run faster; you're unable to dodge the pieces falling from the spacecraft anymore and keep slicing your skin on them, but it doesn't slow you down. You have to go and escape. Run. Run. RUN. There's an airlock up ahead. Maybe you can escape through it and lock him out. You have to try. Just one more corner. But you are met with a deadend; the craft has been dented to the point where it has crushed the corridor. You claw at the metal uselessly. You feel the whole craft shaking and rumbling, the sirens blaring, the metal creaking, the fire popping. From the distance, you hear explosions and his voice getting closer.

"You think you can escape? You have nowhere to go! You are nothing! You are mine! I made you, and I get to do with you as I please! Now stop running!"

Your fingers leave bloody marks on the metal where you tear at it. No matter how hard you pull and push, the gap isn't getting any bigger. You are trapped here with nowhere to run. You try pressing your body into the small space where you can faintly see light coming from. Your arm is the only thing making it through, reaching out into nothingness.

"Here you are, you dog!" The growl sounds from behind you, and you press yourself harder into the gap. "I am God! I am your Father! You must treat me with respect!"

He grabs your hair and throws you back; your arm, which had been reaching out, dislocates from your shoulder. The fear has tied a rope around your neck; you can't even scream out. His foot connects with your arm, and a loud crack signals bones breaking. Your eyes are pressed shut, awaiting punishment, but instead an explosion shakes your whole body, throwing you against a different wall, and then a surge of air pulls you away again. You open your eyes to see yourself outside the exploding spacecraft, everything engulfed in flames as you fall. More debris flies through the air, hitting and cutting you until something heavy connects with your head, a pain both sharp and blunt that ends this nightmare.
