"What's going on?" You repeat your question and take a step closer to him. You see his skin darken further, but he doesn't turn away from you. Some of the uneasiness disappears with his embarrassed look.
"I..." He seems to be at a loss for words; his lips move as if trying out different starts for his sentence, but no sound comes out.
You go closer, as close as you can without touching him, standing toe to toe and looking up with an expectant look. It sends nervous shivers up his back, making him feel like all the hairs on his body are standing up. But at the same time, there's a part of him that wants to grab you tight and not let go.
"I..." he swallows. "I didn't mean to be... weird. I just... I just want to know if you feel the same way I do."
He blurts out the end of the sentence after stuttering on the first part. He forces his eyes onto you, not wanting to miss any hint of emotion from your face. The anger he saw before disappears, replaced by understanding and softness.
"That's what you meant..." Clarity reaches you. "Funny you should ask; I was wondering that too."
Your hand finds his, intertwining your fingers with his and lifting it up to the side. Your other hand is still hanging by your side.
"You mean what I feel towards you? How you make me feel?" Your eyes turn to your hands, and you slip your fingers out, tracing them along his forearm. "It's like a force of nature in my veins when your skin touches mine. Something stirs in me—I don't have a name for it—like it could shake the ground and push moons. I always want to reach out, to find comfort in you, your skin, your flesh, and your bones."
Your hand rests on his chest while his still reached out arm slowly lowers again. His eyes are nailed on you. Taking his cybernetic arm, you lift it up too. Your fingers follow the details, slipping between the gap in the forearm, up to his shoulder, and also onto his chest.
"It's like you are a missing puzzle piece I've been looking for, that I've crossed the universe for. It feels like some god's plan to cross our paths—to be blessed enough to walk on the same ground under the same stars at the same time. You drive me crazy, body and soul, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't understand it all myself; I feel like you understand me better than I understand myself, like you can see into my heart and mind."
Vash stands still, stunned, but there is a storm raging in his gut, trying to sweep him up and climb up to his mouth. Your hands trace up his chest onto his neck, your eyes looking into his.
"It might be too soon, but from the first day I met you, I knew there was something about you. I couldn't restrain myself completely, and I revealed truths about myself I would never tell anyone. I trusted you while I barely trusted myself, with almost no memories or understanding of what was happening. It's like you're calling out to me, and I'm calling out to you. It's something so deep down; I feel it in my core; I feel it tingling my skin; I feel the butterflies trying to burst out of me."
His hands, which had been moving down, gently grab your face, framing it with his long fingers.
"It feels like fire when you touch me. I, who I barely feel hot and cold, feel your touch burning, and I don't want it to stop. You can swallow me whole into the depths of your eyes and your soul; if it scorches me, I do not care. You make me feel alive."
Your fingers are digging into the sides of his face, his temples; he is still covered in a blush. You want to pull him closer, wrap yourself around him, and not let go. You want to feel his fire burn, his chest heaving against yours, but instead you hold back, restraining your stiff body from colliding into his. Your eyes are on his; you don't miss the hint of wildness in them, the relief and tenderness.
