"I think I might be able to help," you hear Vash say to the man, and you recognize pain in his voice. "But I will have to ask you to leave."
"Young man, you ask me to leave you, a complete stranger, alone with our one and only plant?" The old man sounds shocked.
"I do. Otherwise, I can't do my job, and I'll have to leave." You know it's an empty threat. "No other help will arrive in time."
The old man seems to be torn, huffing for a moment before giving in. "It's not like I don't know that. So I'll have to have faith. But try anything funny, and the whole town will tear into you! We have armed guards all around the facility!"
"Yes. You have my word." Vash's voice is flat as he looks up at the flickering plant. Even from his silhouette, you can see how tense he is while waiting for the stranger to leave. You see the old man hesitate for a moment longer before he heads back to the door, passing you and closing it. You stand there, some ways away from Vash, and watch him take a few steps forward to stand closer to the tank, reaching out his hands to place them on the glass above his head and lean his forehead against the glass.
"I can hear you; don't be afraid." His quiet voice speaks up. "It's okay; you aren't alone. I am here. Do you hear me too?"
His voice is so tender as he presses his head and hands against the barrier. The flickering of the red Plant lessens, and suddenly you notice the bulb moving. It starts to open itself like a flower, curving the petals away from her figure. Your lips part as if to say something, but you stay quiet as the creature unfurls her wings, markings glowing all over her body, and she moves towards Vash. She places her hands over his so gently. She looks so human, but at the same time, not at all; she is something godly and beautiful. Her eyes look so sad as they gloss over you. You are completely entranced as you look at her bowing closer to the man and placing her forehead against his.
"Yes, I can hear you. I'm just like you." Vash's soft voice speaks, and there's relief in it. "I'm glad you can hear me too. I know you're scared, but it's going to be all right."
As your eyes move back to Vash, you see markings appearing on his skin. They glow faintly in the red light as they are a contrasting blue. You only see a little bit of them on his neck. You want to see more; it's like you're enchanted. Taking a few quiet steps along the wall, slowly circling the Plant's tank in the middle of the room, you keep your eyes on both the Plant and Vash—two otherworldly beings, either gods or angels. All the while, Vash keeps talking, assuring her that things will be okay now that he is here, telling her not to be afraid. You move far enough to see his side profile, and it takes our breath away. The Plant markings creep up his neck onto his chin, over his ears onto his cheeks, they appear on his forehead, which you can barely see, weaving down the bridge of his nose. His eyes are closed as he is face-to-face with the Plant, who has completely stopped flickering; her eyes are shut as well.
You feel a few tears roll down your cheeks, not sure why they are there. For a moment, everything is frozen in complete silence, and then the tank starts to get brighter and brighter, to the point where you have to squint, not bearing the light. It's the brightest right before flashing blue, filling the room with its brilliance, and then dimming again. Once you can open our eyes fully again, you see that the Plant is illuminated by the regular light blue color you're used to seeing, and the markings on her body shine faintly. She raises her forehead from the glass but keeps her hands against Vash's. You turn to look at him and see the patterns on his skin slowly pulsing brighter and then dimming again, almost to the point of being gone. He opens his eyes before moving, and you see the same patterns in them, both on the whites and his blue irises.
Vash lets out a deep sigh before lifting his head from the tank and looking up into the eyes of the Plant. A gentle smile on his lips as he talks again, "See? All better again."
