After a few hours, you are ready to leave. Vash had his rest and checked on his gun and bullets, while you assessed that all your knives are accessible to you in their sheaths. You are nervous as you close the clasp of your cloak on your shoulder.

"Ready?" Vash asks quietly.

"Yeah, let's go," you say, looking at him with a serious expression on your face. You are worried about him and the captives; you're afraid there might not be anyone to save, or perhaps Vash will get badly hurt again. Maybe they know you're coming; maybe the Snatchers lied to you. All of that is a possibility, and the unknown scares you. You don't want to see your love in pain—not physically, not emotionally. You know how the guilt would affect him should it turn out that there are no captives alive.

You rip yourself from these depressing thoughts as you walk through the door Vash holds open for you. He locks the room and deals with the clerk as he checks out. You wait patiently a few steps away, looking into the streets through the windows of the reception area. The unease grows with every step. So much is unknown and left up to Vash's regular mentality of just winging it. And while you trust him completely to focus on the mission and do what he thinks is best, you also know that he will most likely do it at the expense of himself.

Together, you leave the hotel, and you're under the dark night sky, most stars drowned out by the streetlights and advertisements. There are still people moving about, but a lot less than before; most of the city seems asleep. You're lucky Vash has been here before and has an understanding of how it is built up. He guides you through some side streets until you find that some of them lead downward. You follow them into the ship itself. It has been hollowed out, but still, you realize what has been done. There is a quite literal underworld to this city; some of the skyscrapers above have their beginnings down here too. Not to mention the other buildings—some built from the bottom up, others suspended from the ceiling of this place. A mess of streets, pipes, and wires covers everything like a spiderweb.

You pull up your hood, hiding your face under it; you need to look like a weak and submissive captive for anyone who might see you following Vash. You had decided not to go as far as to tie you up, instead opting for you to play the role of a distressed woman too scared to revolt. This suited both of you. Vash didn't want to lug you around like a prisoner, and you had your hands free in case of an emergency.

You walk deeper into the belly of the beast, both of you trying to remember the layout of this underground city and memorizing all the escape routes. You notice an officer up ahead as you turn the corner, and you signal Vash of it with a slight tap on his back. You pull back more into your cloak, barely able to see anything besides the ground beneath you.

"Hey!" you hear Vash's voice trying to sound tough. "I'm looking for doctor Wade McCoy. Would you be able to point me in the right direction?"

You know that at this point Vash is holding out his hand with crumpled up $$200 tucked in it. From the rustling of paper a moment later, you know the cop took the bills.

"You've got something good for him?" A female voice speaks, and you hear footsteps coming closer. You see military boots standing right in front of you, and a hand grabs your hood, ripping it away with a quick motion.

You flinch at the motion, not because it scares you, but because that's what a captive would do. You take a quick look, not seeing much under the face covers of the officer, before throwing your gaze to the ground and retreating half a step. You try to make yourself small as you hunch over. Her gloved hand reaches out to you, and you can sense Vash tensing up. You flinch again as she nearly touches your face.

"Please! Don't hurt me!" You weakly whimper out, but she ignores you, takes your jaw into a vice like grip, and makes you look up. You close your eyes tight; you don't want her to see the furious fire burning in them.
