Ruby's POV:
I raced through the streets, running everywhere to find what I thought was my mother. That can't be her, I thought; it just can't be her! It's not possible! She died when I was 12. This can't be real! I stopped running at an intersection and looked everywhere frantically. I must've been imagining things. I turned my head back when...I saw her hair bun. My heart clenched as I saw my mother walk away into a crowd. I maneuvered through the group of people on the sidewalk, desperately trying to catch up to my mother. When I made my way through, she was gone. The world was spinning. I couldn't catch my breath, and my head hurt. Mommy, are you here?
3rd Person POV:
Yang, Blake, and Weiss were walking through the city, searching for Ruby.
"Are you sure she went this way?" Yang asked Weiss.
"Definitely," Weiss replied, "given the traffic and the direction she walked in when she left, Ruby definitely came this way. But why?"
"Yeah," said Blake, "she looked scared and surprised for a brief moment back home. You think something's bothering her?"
"It's probably our mom," Yang sighed, looking down, "when she died, it hurt Ruby pretty badly. I mean, Summer was my mom, too, but she had such a strong bond with Ruby. Honestly, I was jealous of it, but our mom never made me feel second best. She said that even though I wasn't her daughter, she loved me like I was, which meant mom had just as much love for me as she did for Ruby."
"Well, that's nice," moaned Weiss, "I'd give anything for such a loving mother. Mine's biggest 'I love you' present was just being present until my dad showed up. With Winter joining the military and me wanting to be a huntress, it always made him mad."
"Listening to you guys makes me feel sort of bad," Blake said shyly.
"What do you mean?" asked Yang.
"The only struggle in my childhood was being a Faunus. My parents were loving, I grew up in a happy home, and they were powerful role models. The White Fang fought against humanity, which drove my father so mad his face would turn red. But no matter how angry he got, he never wanted it at me or my mother; he told us his frustrations, and honestly, it made me stronger for it. I'll never know what your childhoods were like, but everything we went through made us who we are now, and the same applies to Ruby. I just hope we can be there for her."
"There she is!" Weiss pointed out.
The three girls looked to see Ruby at an intersection, looking around in a panicked state.
"Wow, she looks... agitated," Yang said cautiously.
The three girls went to her until she turned and ran in a different direction.
Ruby's POV:
I turned a corner and headed down to a less crowded city area. I saw my mother walking by herself to a corner. She looked over her shoulder at me and then disappeared behind the wall. I bolted down the sidewalk and turned the corner where my mother awaited me. I jumped in surprise as we stared at each other. I tried to speak. I wanted to say something, anything, to my mother, but nothing came out of my mouth. Instead, my mother spoke first.
"Oh, Ruby," she said softly, "you've gotten so big." I desperately tried speaking to her. I missed her voice, talking to and laughing with her, and I'd do anything to get that back. Come, Ruby, say something! "Did you miss me?" tears welled in my eyes at the sound of her question.
"Yes," I managed weakly to say, " I missed you so much, Mommy."
My mother held out her arms, and I rushed to them, but when I hugged her, she turned to dust. I almost screamed at the sight of it.
