"Merry Christmas." Lauren gave Chris a small peck on the lips, he fluttered his eyes open slowly and smiled. This was his favourite way to wake up.

"Merry Christmas beautiful," Chris replied making Lauren blush, how did he still have the power to do that?

"I've made some scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. I just wanna know if you want tea or some bucks fizz with it."

"Both?" Chris answered sitting up, hungry for Lauren's cooking which he loved. They sat in the kitchen eating their breakfast with Maple eating hers out of her bowl also, both bubbling with excitement at the thought of the other person opening their gifts.

After they had cleaned up after breakfast Lauren grabbed the dog and settled on the sofa with Maple on her lap.

"Shall we get a present?! Lauren said to the dog in her high pitched dog voice. Chris was walking past the tree he grabbed a very neatly wrapped red parcel for Maple, and another gold wrapped one for Lauren handing them over. She opened the red one first giggling when Maple started barking excitedly at the sight of her favourite treats. After giving her two treats Lauren set the box down before tearing into her present from Chris, laughing almost maniacally on seeing Chris's book in her hands.

"Someone's finally bought one," Lauren chimed in a joking manner.

The couple continued to exchange gifts. Chris loving his new hoodie, t shirt, football shirt, trainers and watch and Lauren enjoying some perfume, blanket, books, and a beautiful new leather jacket. There was only one gift each to give and both had saved their biggest for last.

Lauren was first and she opened the small package, looking up at Chris when a blue velvet box came into view. As she opened it up she could feel her heart beating against her chest, the pace quickened on seeing an obviously antique heart shaped gold ring.

"It's just something to tell you I love you," Chris explained, of course it also had a hidden purpose of finding out Lauren's reaction and judging by her smile and lack of freaking out it appeared like any future ring would be met with joy instead of terror.

"Chris it's absolutely beautiful," Lauren gushed placing the ring on the middle finger of her right hand. It also fit perfectly which was another one of Christopher's tests.

"The stone is a garnet, not exactly high end but I saw it and thought of you, it's Victorian," Chris revealed and Lauren couldn't wipe the smile off her face.

"Honestly Chris, it's absolutely wonderful. I don't care if it cost five hundred quid or a fiver, it's just my style and the fact it's vintage everything is just perfect." Lauren kissed Chris as an act of thanks before going to the tree and handing him the last thing left under there, an envelope.

"Are you going to tell me I'm adopted or something?" Chris joked about shaking the envelope before opening it, he always shook his presents before opening them.

"No, I think that is what your sister had planned for you on New Year's Eve. I do have to admit this one is a little bit selfish but the main reason for this is for you." Lauren watched with baited breath as Chris opened up the envelope and unveiled the homemade ticket she printed off.

"Wait, we're seeing the Grand Prix in Japan??" He shouted his voice breaking slightly, it was so loud that Maple placed one ear up from her position on the floor snoozing, having lost interest in the boxes and wrapping ages ago.
