"When everything fades away, only the three foundations of KodaCait remain: Family, Kindness and Beauty. But the greatest of these is Beauty."
"Are you sure about this, August?"
King Augustine nodded his head gently, taking his wife by the hand, "It's for the best honey".
King Augustine and Queen Pandora's adoption of five girls from the KodaCait Opal Orphanage shook the kingdom with unprecedented excitement. The couple, known for their warmth and regal charm, carefully selected girls within a specific age range, aiming for a harmonious family image. In reality, the main criteria for the adoption was their looks- the five girls chosen were labelled the prettiest girls in the Orphanage. They didn't need to be drop dead gorgeous, as their looks could be changed with time, but they couldn't be ugly girls either- for it wouldn't be good for the family image.
The five chosen girls were more than thrilled to leave the orphanage and begin a new life at the palace. The eldest of the girls was Odette. Being the prettiest of the five, Odette had been in the Orphanage since she was five years old, when it was discovered that her real parents suddenly passed away. She was confident, very tall and slim for a thirteen year old with short nails, and she smelt like banana bread. The second eldest of the girls was Beatrix, an adorable and smart seven year old. Of course, she was much smaller than Odette. Unlike Odette, Beatrix's biological parents were alive but they didn't have enough money to support a baby.
Odette was holding hands with a shy and frail little girl named Posy, who was clearly hiding behind the teenager. She was six years old, and was quite cute, but wasn't half as charming and alluring as the older girls.
With how nervous she appeared, she looked like a helpless baby deer being hunted. The reason why Posy ended up at the Orphanage was a mystery to everyone, including the king and queen. The final two girls were three year old twins named Stelliana and Arabella, who were being carried by one of the matrons, who were there because their biological parents ran away.
A Carriage pulled into the golden gates of the KodaCait palace, none of the girls could prepare themselves for the paradise which was to be their home. The Palace stood as a testament to the grandeur of the royal family, its sprawling architecture adorned with intricate carvings, sparkling chandeliers, larger-than-life ballrooms and bedrooms, a shimmering turquoise swimming pool and the centre of attention- the vast and beautiful garden, with a fountain in the middle spewing water which glistened like diamonds under the sunset. It was a stark contrast to the state of neglect and disrepair of the Orphanage, its crumbling walls and cramped, overcrowded rooms a bleak reminder of its dire circumstances. While KodaCait dazzled with its wealth and splendour, the orphanage struggled to provide even the most basic amenities for the children who resided there. The poignant disparity between the two homes was like heaven and hell.
"Oh my goodness, oh my goodness! This place is just marvellous! And look at this peony! And ooh, the tulips! And did you know those are called tulips, and-" Beatrix rambled on and on until it felt like her head was about to explode.
