Old friend

The next couple of days Knuckles was more comfortable at the castle and being around Shadow. This made shadow very happy knowing his old friend is comfortable. When shadow heard knuckles birthday was tomorrow he decided to do something special.
Knuckles wakes up by the light of the sun but looks down knowing he won't hear his father's voice telling him happy birthday. Knuckles sighs as he gets up and got dressed for the day debating if he should tell shadow about his birthday being today. He walks down the hall noticing he hadn't seen any of the servants roaming around. When he starts opening the door to the dining room he heard a small shuffle and opens the door completely. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" The servants and shadow shouted making him jump back. He smiles seeing his favorite cake on the table. "Umm thank you all but how did you know?" He asked. "Well someone told us and I wanted to make sure you celebrated today besides.... It's been a while since a birthday was celebrated here and that is my fault." Shadow said looking down. "It's ok perhaps we can start that back up then" knuckles smiled. "But who told you all?" Knuckles asked. "That is part of your surprises I have for you" shadow smiled and stepped aside letting a gold armor knight through. "It's been years Red Knight of Rosebush." He said and knuckles eyes widen at the nickname. "T-Tails?" He said and the armor head nods. "Happy birthday my old friend" Tails said and the two hugged. "When the castle vanished I thought....." "I know" Tails said. "When I told tails about you he informed me about your birthday and how you were good friends in the village" Shadow said. "Thank you this is the start of an amazing birthday" knuckles smiled.
Knuckles lays down on his bed after dinner with a big smile on his face. It was the best birthday he had ever had and got to catch up with Tails. Yet he wondered what tails meant when they were alone in the hallway. "I just hope this curse doesn't last much longer"
