Broken

Knuckles scooted back as far as he could and felt the rock on his back. One of the wolves lead the other closer to him and fear coursed in his veins. The leader bite down on his ankle and drags him away from the rock. Knuckles was in pain but all he could do was closed his eyes as tears fell waiting for his death. A larger growl was heard and wolf suddenly yipped in pain. Knuckles opened his eyes and saw Shadow was over him on all fours in a protective manner. Shadow snapped and snarled at the wolves who dare got close. The leader pounce on shadow scratching his shoulder making him howl yet he tossed the leader to the side. The other's attack and shadow fought them off. The leader attempted to get knuckles who was unprotected at this point but shadow tossed another wolf into him. The leader howled in retreat and the pack ran off. Shadow turned to knuckles before falling over. Knuckles catches him and helps him back to the castle.

Blaze pours hot water from her spout into a bowl as knuckles dips the rag in it. He rings the water watching the water droplets fall. "Shadow... I need to clean your shoulder could you sit on the floor with me?" He asked and Shadow nods. "It's gonna sting a little" knuckles said. Shadow whined at the pain but it quickly went away. "Thank you... for saving my life by the way..." Knuckles said as the rag cleans shadows wound but at the same time gets stained by his blood. "Of course... but I'm surprised you came back.... after seeing you in the mirror looking guilty I didn't want to burden you with coming back...." Shadow said looking down. "But I did want to come back.... I truly did shadow.... I never thought I'd have my brother being so nice and actually love me........ but it was a trick and he hired two thugs to follow and kill me.... Then my brother kill you.... I couldn't let that happen." Knuckles said and puts the rang in the bowl and continues to clean telling shadow about what he heard. Shadow sent a few servants to retrieve Sally. Yet she had left the castle once she returned to normal and returned to the village where she was put in jail with Manson and his accomplices. Knuckles wraps shadow shoulder and sighed. "I will say this during that time apart shadow.... I realize something..... and I hope.... You feel the same....." knuckles said. "What is that?" Shadow asked. "That I grown feelings for you.... As more than a friend..... I... I love you Shadow." Knuckles said and Shadow smiled. "I love you too" he replied and soon their lips touched for a long awaited kiss away making a light surround them. Soon that light burst through the whole castle then the two villages waking up its people. They gasped seeing the castle had returned and start to head to it. The servants felt themselves changing making them smile. "ITS HAPPENING!!!" Silver exclaimed in joy. Once the light dies down they see their hands, feet, arms, legs, and run to where they left knuckles and Shadow. The light dies around them and they see them parting their lips. When knuckles opened his eyes he falls back in shock. "What's wrong knuckles?" Shadow asked. "You're..... you're not a beast anymore." He said and shadow looks down see his hands weren't large wolf like paws. He stood up and walked to the mirror seeing his reflection and saw his old face. Knuckles stood up seeing the smile in shadows reflection before shadow turned to him. "You did it...." Shadow said tears of joy falling. "You broken the curse. You're the pure heart." He said and walks over to him then hugs him tightly. "You freed us my love. Thank you!" shadow and then kisses him again again. Knuckles had no idea why he was the one to break the curse but he was happy that he fulfilled his promise and that shadow loves him. The servants burst in and cheered for Knuckles thanking him as well. Tails runs in and hugs his friend then informs shadow that the villagers were approaching. Shadow smiled and went to the balcony where the people cheered seeing him.

Shadow announced a ball for everyone to attend in two days and will explain everything.
