Pigeon Forge day 1 and 3/4

We pulled into the camp ground around 4. I was relieved to get out to the van and into the fresh air because someone thought it was a good idea to give Keith (the master farter) Taco Bell. "Welcome to Tennessee!" Chris whispered in my ear smirking at my desperate intakes of fresh air. "Yeah Pigeon Forge! We shall forge some pigeons!" Keith said climbing out of the car. Everyone laughed and rolled their eyes. Daniel even tossed a Taco Bell wrapper at his head.

We began to make a campsite in an open area that was surrounded by large green trees. The shade was a nice break from the intense sun. Some hikers were returning to their tents after a long day of hiking so the chatter, not like we needed any help with that, but it masked the sounds of nature so the mountains and greenery were the only things that kept me tethered to the fact that I was in Tennessee.

I helped Kara gather fire wood for the fire pit the boys were making. We walked along the path in silence picking up twigs every once in a while. "I can't carry anymore." Kara laughed as a couple twigs escaped her grasp. I picked them up and added them to my already big pile. "Same. I think this is enough." We walked back to the campsite in a comfortable silence.

"Lindy," she began nervously. "Yeah?" I answered curious to see what she would say. "I'm sorry I intruded on your trip with the boys. I know how annoying having me along must be for you because it was supposed to be a special trip for you and the boys. What I'm trying to say is I'm sorry that I kind of butted into the group." She looked away as we turned the corner.

I continued to walk dumbstruck. she thought she was intruding? "You are not intruding. I like having another girl here. It's an equally special trip for me and the guys and we're all happy you're here. I especially love how happy you make Daniel feel. I've never seen him smile so much and he really, truly deserves it. I'm so happy you're here, Kara. Don't ever think I don't." I smiled at her, hoping my speech would help her feel better. i could see tears rolling down her cheeks and a smile perked onto her face. "Thank you." She whispered as she pulled me into a hug, despite the twigs. "What you just said makes me feel so much better. Thank you, Lindy." We came to the campsite after a couple more feet of walking.

"Took you long enough!" Keith yelled to us from his folding chair. He had his feet up over the arm of the chair and his head the same way so it wasn't difficult for Daniel to dump him out of it as he and Chris came to help us with the sticks.

Chris grabbed the sticks and planted a kiss on my cheek. I blushed and walked over to my chair in front of the fire. Chris and Daniel started positioning the twigs and Keith struck a match. I scooted back because I didn't trust him with fire after what he did to the principal on April Fool's Day. He dropped the match into the pit and the fire began to blaze. I sat there staring at the twigs as they jumped to life.

We picked up a hotdog and s'mores kit from the Ranger Station Shop and all the the boys except Lucas were already preparing roasting sticks. Lucas was sitting by the fire reading a copy of Fahrenheit 451 and marking in the margins like always. His dark burgundy Marmot jacket was pulled tightly around him as he buried his nose deeper into the book. Daniel had his arm around Kara as they both laughed about her blackened hotdog that was currently burning in the center of the blazing fire. The sky was already dark so the stars were glowing bright in the sky.

"My lady." Chris smirked as he handed me the tube of meat on a stick.

"Why thank you good sir." I said in my best British accent. He stuck out his hand and I took it letting him lift me out of the seat. We both knelt down by the fire and lowered our hotdogs into the fire.
