Chris held my hand as the Great Pumpkin bounced along the dimly lit road. My feet were aching from all the hiking we did the Dakotas and Montana. I shivered just thinking about the glaciers and the snow hike.

Chris and I scrolled through our goofy selfies by the giant piles of ice and snow and me pretending to lick the snow plow guiding poles. I winced thinking about Chris pushing my face into the pole making me actually lick the metallic germ magnet. I used the rest of Chris's mouthwash (a little more than half a bottle) to rise my mouth out while the group laughed. He snorted when I showed him the pictures of me chugging and spitting out the green liquid. I rolled my eyes putting my finger to my lips. It was late and everyone was sleeping so we tried to keep quiet. He put his finger to his lips mocking me. I rolled my eyes and kissed his cheek.

I turned my phone off, cutting off the last light source in the back seat. I laid my head on Chris's shoulder. He stretched his arm around my shoulders pulling me close. He planted a kiss on the top of my head. His head rested on mine. I could hear his breathing soften and become more even. I closed my eyes.

I recounted the plan one more time before I drifted off. Dakotas- check, Montana- check, Seattle, Mount Rainier, Olympic Coast, Las Vegas, California, home. Senior year. That's all that's left. I sighed and drifted into a state of comfortable unconsciousness.

I opened my eyes slowly. I tried to move my head but Chris was still laying on me. I didn't move in fear of waking him. I grabbed my phone and texted my dad and mom quickly. I closed the app and opened Pinterest scrolling mindlessly through different outfits I'd never wear, art I could never do, food I couldn't cook or stomach, and fandom stuff occasionally pinning to my boards.

I yawned quietly. Chris stirred and returned to normal. I blew out a sigh of relief. His scent of stale Axe and cologne radiated off his 2 day old shirt. I lifted Chris carefully, confident he could sleep through me moving. I laid his head in my lap and he moved to get comfy and continued sleeping.

I smiled down at his shaggy hair that was starting to curl. I played with the small curls for a bit letting my eyes wonder to Keith in the front seat.

He sat shirtless in basketball shorts making the girls we passed on the highway to Washington stare. Keith was on his 6th Starbucks coffee. The glass bottles littered the front seat. I rolled my eyes at his shocked expression. He certainly did not need that much caffeine. His red hair was getting longer and curlier than usual. These boys need to be groomed.

I looked around the backseat. Kara and Daniel were wrapped around each other sprawled across 3 seats. I smiled.

Lucas was snoozing underneath my world map fleece throw, an open book and a pencil were in the seat next to him. A hint of drool dotted the corner of his mouth.

Chris stirred again in my lap. His face twisted in concern. "But I wanted the monkey churro Lindy!" he groaned. I laughed playing with his curls. "You look really nice in that hat though. Yeah come here." he purred seductively. "Just don't eat my last Klondike at the Taco Bar!" He teased smiling. I snorted.

His mood switched instantly, shaking me. He turned his face twisting in agony. "No Dad, please!" he screamed. His face twisted. His breathing picked up rapidly. I looked at his face, concerned. "No please!" He screamed. Sweat beaded his forehead as his his breathing continued to pick up becoming more shallow. Pain was written all over his contorted features. I tried to wake him to no avail. He kept flinching. "Mom!" he cried. "No! Dad! I'll take his! I'll take it! Don't hurt him! Dad!" He screamed waking Daniel. I looked over to Daniel. He looked worriedly at Chris. He untangled himself from Kara and hurried over to Chris. He grabbed Chris's face and started trying to wake him up. "Chris! Get up!" He didn't wake but kept on flinching and breathing heavily. "Get up dammit!" He screamed waking the rest of us. Chris stirred his breathing returning to normal, his eyes shot open. He looked around his eyes bloodshot. "Chris! What the hell just happened?" I questioned urgently. Daniel gave Chris a look. Chris realized what just happened. He gave Daniel a scared look then hardened immediately. "Nothing." he answered nonchalantly as if that didn't just happen. "That looked like something, Darling." I said sweetly but sternly. "I have no idea what you're talking about. It was just a dream if anything." he said sternly. "Keith can you park?" He asked. "Yep." Keith pulled into the rest stop. Everyone grabbed their toothbrushes and other toiletries and got ready as we pulled into the parking lot. Chris slipped his slips on and exited the moving van and speedily walked into the rest stop in nothing but his red sweats.
